2.12 Interrogating My Future Husband- I mean, Aaron Davis

Start from the beginning

"Karen's-" He cut himself off and crossed his arms. "Hang on, give me one good reason why I should trust you."

"Alex could have been on that elevator." The thought of Alex slipping out of my scissor hands and into the abyss shook me to the core. It choked me and I felt my eyes fill. I met, Peter's gaze and I hated the sorrow in them, it took a second to notice a cold tear.

Before it dripped down my face I whipped it off and clenched my jaw. "You don't need to trust me, but you can still use me." When his brown eyes focused on my collar, I felt myself pull at threads and I almost laughed. "You want to be an Avenger right? Come on, that's basically their motto."

A tense bit of silence later, his eyes grazed over my face, then his tongue darted over his bottom lip. "I need your suit."

"Pardon?"

Instead of answering my question he hooked an arm around me and flew us across the city till we were in the alley we started at.

I braced myself on the brick wall. "A warning would be nice next time."

"I need you to give me your suit." He repeated, holding up my backpack, a certain confident well intentioned-ness that kept me from slapping his face.

"Buy me dinner first, Parker," I said, but I took my backpack back. I pressed the middle button of my suit and watched how his ears turned red. Taking his cue, he looked up at the sky and swallowed thickly.

I changed unbothered by him, the air was cold on my skin and I had lost a bit of the confidence I gained by flustering him.

As I zipped up my jeans, I sighed. "You know, I don't think Liz isn't going to accept this treatment."

His jaw dropped. "How do you know-"

"She may not see your puppy dog eyes, but I do," I replied, stuffing my hands into hoodie pockets. "And so does all of Midtown too."

"I'm not that obvious." Offended his voice took a higher pitch that told me he knew his words were bullshit too.

"Maybe not, but for the record just because May isn't home doesn't mean everyone isn't."

"What-" His eyes widened as I made my impression of Peter Parker on Saturday night. Cheeks pink, he put his hand over my mouth and I leaned back into the wall behind me. "If we are going to work together, you can't do that."

Once he took his hand off my mouth, I said. "Deal."

Skipping school and therapy, I sat on his bed while sat across from me in a roller chair. May wasn't home and neither was Zoey, which as two teens with no social life and an interest in crime-fighting that only meant one thing: tracking down weapons dealers.

His room was about the same size as mine, but simultaneously cleaner and more cluttered. As soon as you entered his room, you saw his interest, hobbies, and favorite sweaters. Star Wars and just about every sci-fi franchise you could think of.

My suit was splayed out on his comforter and he held my mask in fingers, while he wore his.

"Alright, Charlie meet Karen," Peter said as he placed my mask on my face. "I modified them so you could see what I see."

I shot him a confused expression, but then a screen image overlaid in the eye holes. "Holy fuck."

"Hello, Charlie Redmond." An automated woman's voice greeted me politely, my jaw dropped a little. "Peter told a lot about you."
