"Mom, you could have just left out the inappropriate parts." my oldest daughter, Celia said, rolling her eyes at me.
"You're old enough to know about it anyway so what's the point of hiding it," I said, rolling my eyes straight back at her.
"Well, that was a waste of my time. I'm going, mother." my son said, the middle child, Zero. I chuckled. I knew he enjoyed it. His eyes sparkled the whole time I told the story. He's just a tad bit shy to express his actual feelings.
"That was so romantic. I really enjoyed it so don't listen to Zero and Celia." my youngest daughter, Xena said, smiling brightly. She was a honeybun. So sweet and nice.
"Don't worry about it. We both know they're tsunderes." I giggled.
"They remind me of this one anime character called..." she rambled on. I chuckled. She was like me. We talked about anime half the time we were together.
You're probably wondering, aren't they all hybrids? Surprisingly, no they're not. Celia and Xena were both werewolves since that was the gene that was the strongest, while Zero actually turned out to be a dragon, like Axel. They're all about the same age, Celia being 19, Zero being 17, and Xena being 16. They didn't have too much of an age difference.
I went outside and sat on the back porch. Today's weather was great. Sun shining, wind blowing, birds chirping, bees buzzing. I inhaled the fresh air. I loved the weather after it rained. The air was fresher, cleaner.
"I knew I would find you out here." Draco chuckled from behind me, taking a seat beside me.
"How was your day?" I asked, smiling.
"Why do you even bother asking? You know that it's always going to be stressful," he replied, sighing.
"Well, I was thinking that maybe one day it wouldn't be. That's why I keep asking." I said softly, gazing across the field that we had behind our house.
"I wish. But I'm glad you ask anyway," he said, chuckling.
"Where's Axel?" I asked, looking at him.
"In the shower. He's all sweaty," he answered, smiling.
"How rude. I wasn't that sweaty." came Axel's voice from behind us. I chuckled. It's been years but they still like to bicker sometimes.
"How did your day go, Axel?" I asked, patting the spot beside me. He sat down next to me and sighed.
"Not the best but better than yesterday at least. Yesterday was absolute chaos. We had new employees coming in and they kept bothering me." he groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Honestly, I wonder how you're still the CEO of the company when you have an attitude like that." I chuckled.
"I do it for you and our kids. We need to make money somehow," he said, shrugging his shoulders.
"You do realize that all of us are loaded right?" I said, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, the children need a good role model to look up to. They can't be spoiled," he said, narrowing his eyes at me.
"There's me. I'm a good role model. We don't need you." Draco piped in, rolling his eyes at Axel.
"Shut it, you mutt. I'm also their dad if you haven't realized." Axel said, glaring at him.
"Mom!" Celia yelled, running out of the house. I stood up worriedly.
"What's wrong?" I asked, checking her for injuries.
"Zero's shifting!" she said, out of breath. All of our eyes widened.
"Tell him to come outside, Celia. We can't have him breaking stuff." Axel ordered, going into the house.
"What's the point of telling Celia if he's just gonna go inside to get him anyway?" I chuckled, looking at Draco. He just shrugged his shoulders.
A few moments later, Axel came out with a half-shifted Zero. Jesus, that looked painful.
"Go into the field, son. You'll have more space." Draco said, gesturing to the field. Zero wobbled to the field and his body started to curve, his bones breaking.
"Is he going to be okay?" Xena asked worriedly, joining us outside.
"It's painful but he'll survive. He'll get the hang of it, don't worry." Axel said reassuringly, ruffling Xena's hair. She pouted.
"Is he going to be a fat dragon? Kinda like dad?" Xena asked me. I laughed.
"Don't do that to your dad. He's gonna be mad at you." I said, still laughing.
"Is he gonna look like Tohru from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid?" she asked, thinking.
"Hmm, maybe? Perhaps he'd be a light green or something, maybe even a yellow. It rarely ever gets cold here so he'll probably have more summer-like colors." I said, also thinking.
"Oh, true. Dad is a pale blue since he was raised in a pretty cold place so it makes sense that Zero would be a different color," she said, her eyes glittering.
"I can't believe you guys are talking so casually as if a deformed dragon wasn't in front of you," Draco said, shaking his head, a smile on his face.
"Hey, don't say that. That deformed dragon is your son." I said sternly, slapping his arm.
"We should give him some motivation," Celia suggested.
"Good idea. It seems like he's a little stuck." I said, nodding.
"Come on, Zero, my boy! You can do it!" Draco yelled.
"I'm so proud of you Zero honey! You're growing so fast!" I yelled, smiling.
"Zero, you stupid f*ck don't ever eat my last waffle ever again!" Celia yelled angrily. We all laughed.
"Zero, I love you so much! You're the best big brother anyone could ask for!" Xena yelled, grinning.
"We're so proud of you son! I'll give you a car for your next birthday!" Axel yelled, laughing.
After a little while, Zero was finally done shifting. Seems like our motivation worked. And just as I predicted, he was a pale green color. He was almost as big as our house, which was pretty huge. Still not as big as Axel though.
"I'll be back. We're gonna go for a fly." Axel said before he went out into the field and shifted into his dragon. Man, I wonder what the neighbors must think. Two huge dragons in a field. Seems normal enough.
Axel blasted a tiny ice ball at Zero and he looked hilarious trying to dodge it. We were all wheezing at the scene. He attempted to blast his own element at us but all that came out was a small thing of fire. We laughed even harder, clenching our stomachs.
Axel leaned his head towards us and gently nudged me with his snout.
"Just go, I don't want dragon snot all over me," I said playfully. His nostrils flared. He turned back towards Zero and nodded at him, Axel slowly flapping his wings and going into the sky. Zero tried to copy him but he struggled under his own weight.
He finally did it after a few tries and they both flew into the horizon, Zero being a little wobbly in the air. I chuckled.
The sun was setting and we all watched as they flew into the sky.
It was a lovely sight. It was soothing.
It was my family.
