Chapter 28. Revenge Part 1

Stephen took a deep breath, then uttered, "Good evening, Zach. To what do I owe this pleasure?" I smiled at Amelia, then said through the phone, "Good evening, Stephen. Remember how you said that you couldn't garner enough funds to take the kids on an all-expense-paid camping trip this year?" Stephen hesitated a bit then responded to me with, "Yeah, I remember. What about it?" I chuckled, then stated, "You better tell the kids to start packing, Stephen. Mellisa Palmer, the late C.E.O of the Palmer corporation, just donated ten thousand dollars to your youth center. You can buy whatever the kids need for the trip. Mrs. Palmer's daughter, Amelia, wants the kids to eat delicious food and to have the time of their lives at Jellystone Park."

Stephen was quiet for a few minutes. It was like he couldn't believe his ears. I composed myself then uttered in a soothing voice, "It's not a dream, Stephen. I will transfer the money to your account tomorrow morning. You can celebrate now." Amelia chuckled when she heard Stephen yell, "Hey kids, guess what? Our trip to the Jellystone park is still on!" The younger kids were the first ones to scream with joy. Elizabeth shouted, "Really, dad?" in disbelief. Stephen snickered, then responded to her with, "Yes, Elly. Your uncle Zach has accumulated funds for us." All the kids started yelling, "Thank you, uncle Zach!" One of the older boys grabbed the phone, then said, "Hi, uncle Zach. It's Philip. Thank you so much for helping us. We were all disappointed when we only managed to collect the entrance fee to the park. All our families are in bad positions, so our parents couldn't pitch in. We worked hard to get good grades and needed a break. We won't forget what you have done for us, uncle Zach. Thank you so much for always thinking about us."

I smiled then responded to Philip with, "You guys should thank Mrs. Palmer and her daughter Amelia for acknowledging you guys' struggles, Philip. They were the ones who gave you the money and not me. I've done nothing to earn your praises. Mrs. Amelia Allard is right here if you want to show her gratitude." It seemed like all the kids were listening to our conversation. The kids immediately started yelling, "Thank you, ma'am. We'll pray for you and Mrs. Palmer. May God rest her soul in peace." I hadn't even realized that Amelia was crying. Amelia wiped her tears away, then responded to the kids with, "You are all welcome, kids. Enjoy your trip." Stephen grabbed the phone then said, "I'm sorry for all the commotion, ma'am. It seems like the kids can't control their excitement." Amelia chuckled then stated, "It's alright, Stephen. They are kids. They should enjoy their lives to the fullest." I stroked Amelia's back, then said to Stephen before cutting off the phone, "I will contact you in the morning, Stephen. Good night." I looked at Amelia, then asked her, "Are you alright, ma'am?" Amelia nodded, then answered me with, "I can see why Alexei fell in love with you, Zachariel. You keep on giving and giving without expecting anything in return. I wish you a long and wonderful life."

I grinned at Amelia, then said, "Thank you, ma'am." Briac put his hand on his mother's shoulder, then stated, "It's getting late, mom. We should go." Amelia nodded, then grabbed her bag. She placed a kiss on the children's head, then asked Alexei, "Would you mind if I came by more often to play with the kids, Alexei?" Alexei shook his head, then answered Amelia with, "No, Amelia. Like Zachariel said before, you are their grandmother. My mother wouldn't stop you from visiting her grandchildren if she was alive either." Amelia smiled at Alexei, then walked towards the door with Chance and Briac. Alexandre got up, then declared, "I'll also be visiting you and the kids regularly from now on, Alexei. I've missed many years of your life and don't want to make the same mistake twice." Alexandre then looked in my direction and stated, "I'm glad that Alexei found you, Zachariel. You are a treasure. You can contact me any time you like." I looked in surprise at Alexandre, then said, "Thank you for your kind words, sir."

Alexei, Bertha, and I carried the kids to their room. Ocean had already prepared clothes for them. We bathed the kids, then put them to bed. Alexei and I were exhausted by the end of the night. I decided to take a shower while Alexei went to his study to check his emails. Alexei was sitting on the edge of the bed by the time I had finished showering. I joined Alexei, then asked him, "Did something happen, Alexei?" Alexei sighed, then responded to me with, "No, Zachariel. I'm just speculating about the person who left the letter on your desk." I sighed, then replied to Alexei with, "The person probably thought that I was single, Alexei. I'm sure that there were no ill intentions behind it." Alexei nodded, then said while putting his head on my shoulder, "Promise me that you'll tell me when something like this happens again, Zachariel." I placed a kiss on Alexei's head, then uttered, "I promise to share everything with you from now on, Alexei." Alexei hummed, then said, "I'm proud of you, Zachariel. You have not only made those kids happy today but my family too. Don't be surprised when my father sends you an expensive gift to show you appreciation."
