"you just gotta go introduce yourself. don't worry, she's the most accepting person i know. i'm sure she'll find you adorable."
the four of us hyped him up and he smiled thankfully before taking a deep breath and nodding. he was very nervous. but his hyungs made him feel better.
so he scurried off towards her table and we watched as he introduced himself and the girls cooed and ushered him to sit down. yuna seeming especially excited.
"told him."
yeonjun said proudly and we all sat at our usual lunch table and began eating. i pulled out my phone and saw some messages from my mom. she was just checking up. making sure that i knew the account password to get money in case i needed groceries and reminding me to lock the front and back door every night. an i love you at the end. i replied with an okay and put my phone away unwrapping my sandwich.
the lunch wasn't too bad today, it was hard to make a grilled ham and cheese taste horrible. i ate it somewhat quickly and then excused myself from the lunch table to throw away my tray and go to the library to return a book i had checked out.
i waved to them and exited the large room. the empty halls echoed with my light footsteps that got louder as i got farther away from the loud cafetorium.
when i had reached the library the space was just the perfect type of silent. the silence that wasn't tense or empty but the kind that wrapped you in calmness. i turned my book back into the librarian who smiled and said a short greeting as per usual and i went to check out a different book. normally we weren't permitted to stay in the library at lunch. the principal worried that someone might bring food in or cause a disturbance and ruin it for everyone.
but the librarian saw me on a weekly basis and had grown keen to seeing me. she smiled brightly everytime i entered. it was probably rare to meet a teenager in this generation who genuinely enjoyed reading.
i grabbed something that seemed interesting and took a seat on the couch in the corner of one of the bookshelf alcoves. by the time the bell rang it felt like i had only just started but i found myself bookmarking page 142.
"have a good afternoon mrs. lee."
the kind woman waved back at me and said the same. a small bell hanging on the door handle rang as i opened it to go out to the hall.
it's earlier quietness was gone as students returned from lunch yelling and chasing one another like we were at some type of recess. some people never really grew up after middle school. and it was rather evident.
someone bumped into me and said sorry as they scurried off. i tried to see who it was, not that i would hunt them down or anything of the sort, but the sea of teenagers made it difficult to make out anyone at all.
that was, besides the tall boy with long brown hair who was smiling brightly as he ran over in my direction.
"got lost in a new book i see."
i nodded and he smiled lovingly. i leaned towards him as we walked and let our shoulders brush together and our hands automatically meet in the middle.
"ready for our quiz today?"
"what quiz?"
the older held his free hand in the air in self defense as i glared at him. he let out a small giggle.
