Chapter 31. I surrender.

Amelia stroked my head, then said, "Welcome home, Zachariel." I smiled at Amelia, then responded to her with, "Thank you, Amelia." Amelia grabbed my hand, then uttered, "Come with me, Zachariel. Your father-in-law wants to talk to you." I nodded at Amelia, then walked to the living room with her. Alexandre waved at me while enjoying a glass of whiskey by the fireplace. I chuckled while looking at Dominique. The little boy was trying to braid the dog's hair. Alexandre chuckled when the kids started rolling on the floor with the dog. I took a seat on the sofa, then asked Alexandre, "Did you want to talk to me about something, sir?" Alexandre put his glass down, then answered me with, "Yes, Zachariel. It's about the incident that happened at my company today. Giovanni yearned to meet you. He wanted to thank you personally for helping his father. I rejected his demand because I didn't want to cause you any trouble. I told him that you did it out of goodwill. He is not someone who easily gives up. I have a feeling that he will visit you at the headquarter. Tell the receptionist not to let him through if you don't want to meet him."

I nodded at Alexandre, then declared, "I don't want to offend him, sir. I will meet him if he ever comes looking for me at the headquarter." Alexandre smiled at me, then stated, "That's very kind of you, Zachariel." Amelia handed me a glass of water, then uttered, "That's a wise decision, Zachariel. Giovanni would have otherwise never left you alone. He's a pretty persistent guy." The conversation that I had with Briac popped into my mind suddenly. "I guess it's time to find out what Briac was talking about," I thought to myself while finishing my glass of water. "Alexei will be home late tonight. He has a meeting with a foreign client," I uttered when I saw Alexandre staring at his watch. He was probably waiting to see Alexei. Alexandre sighed then said, "I guess we should have dinner now then."

Amelia and I led the kids to the bathroom, then washed their faces and hands. Alexandre was busy texting someone at the dining table by the time we returned. He put his phone down, then uttered, "Enjoy your meal, everyone." The kids were tired and were refusing to eat. I was surprised when Alexandre persuaded them into eating. Amelia placed a kiss on Alexandre's cheek to show him her appreciation. Amelia helped me bathe the kids after dinner. She left with Maverick and Alexandre after the kids had fallen asleep. I took a shower then gazed at the pool that Alexei hardly used. I came up with the idea to surprise Alexei when I saw the beautifully decorated terrace next to the swimming pool.

I ran to the kitchen to cook some soup for Alexei. Charlotte and Ocean looked questioningly at me. I smiled at them, then stated, "I want to surprise Alexei tonight. He probably already had dinner with Chance and the client. That is why I'm cooking something light for him." Charlotte nodded, then offered to assist me. I gave her some instructions, then went to prepare the table for our dinner with Ocean. Everything was ready by nine o'clock. I handed a note to Ocean for Alexei, then waited by the swimming pool with my guitar. I couldn't comprehend how beautiful the sky was that night. It was cold, but I didn't feel anything. I pondered about Andrew and my company while looking at the stars. The Arrakasta company would receive another blow the next day.

Andrew wouldn't be able to survive this setback. I knew about this because I had orchestrated everything. Andrew shouldn't have angered me by inciting his goons to attack me. I chuckled while imagining Andrew kneeling before me. He was probably going to try to win me over again. His tears wouldn't melt my heart this time because I was already smitten with someone else. A cold shiver ran down my spine when I heard Alexei call out to me with, "Zachariel?" I slowly turned around to face Alexei, then started playing the song "Stand by Me by Ben E. King." Alexei carefully listened to the lyrics. He slowly walked up to me when the song was over. Alexei grabbed my guitar then placed it on the table. He grasped my belt, then pulled me closer. I gasped when Alexei grabbed my face then kissed me passionately. Alexei softly put his forehead against mine, then said, "Thank you, Zachariel. I needed the boost. I got scared when I read your note. I thought that you had something serious to tell me." I kissed Alexei softly then asked him, "Like what, Alexei?"
