Chapter 34. Origin Part 3

Start from the beginning

Paolo grabbed his phone, then asked me, "May I know your name, sir?" I glared at Dante for bothering me, then replied to Paolo with, "My name is Zachariel Joseph, sir. I work at the Marquis empire." Paolo checked me out intently, then dialed someone's number. The person instantly picked up his phone. Paolo sighed, then asked this person, "Do you know someone named Zachariel Joseph, Leonardo?" Paolo listened intently to what Leonardo had to say, then cut off the phone. He smiled at me, then said, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, Zachariel. Leonardo seems to know you well. You can assist my uncle to his room now." I shook my head while thinking that no one had even asked me if I was free or not.

I quickly helped Dante up when he clutched his stomach in pain. Paolo waved goodbye to Dante before the elevator closed. I threw my arm around Dante, then said, "Try to hold it in. You'll be in your room soon." Dante nodded while leaning against my chest. The nurses of the private wing looked in shock at Dante. Dante yelled, "I'm fine," then stepped into his room. I led Dante to the bathroom, then put him on the toilet. Dante didn't utter a word while I helped him flush and clean himself up. He sighed in relief while climbing into his bed. I chuckled, then said, "You should have told Paolo that you needed to go to the bathroom, sir. There are a lot of bathrooms in the maternity ward. It doesn't matter where you do your business as long as you tell one of the nurses about it. It's their job to assist you." Dante smirked, then responded to me with, "I would have missed my chance to see how caring you are if I told Paolo about my stomach ache, Zachariel. God is good to me. I'm glad that you were there to help me, my grandson."

I sighed while looking at my watch. It was almost four o'clock. I had promised Alexei that I would go straight home, and I had taken a detour. I grabbed my bag, then said, "I need to leave now, sir. I hope that you won't cause people any more trouble." Dante chuckled, then asked me, "Can I have a hug, Zachariel?" I groaned when Dante looked at me with puppy dog eyes. I hugged Dante and yelled, "Au!" when he pulled out a few strands of my hair. Dante laughed when I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. I scowled at Dante, then uttered, "You're are such a creepy old man, Dante Malachi. I hope that you won't use my hair to put a curse on me." Dante grinned, then responded to me with, "I will help you reach all your goals if my suspicions are confirmed, Zachariel." I made myself look presentable, then said before leaving, "I don't need people to help me realize my dreams, sir. I have always been independent and will stay so till the end of time."

Dante burst out laughing, then yelled, "I'm glad that at least one of my grandchildren took after me, Zachariel!" I sighed while walking out of Dante's room. The man was cheekier than I thought. I laughed while thinking that we had the same characteristics. I would have never let anyone stand in my way of achieving my goals, either. The wait would be over soon. The Malachi family would shortly find out who I was. I wondered what their reaction would be when they realized that they were right all along. I had already noticed that Giovanni Malachi and I had a lot of similarities. I didn't care about what the DNA results said because it wouldn't change anything for me. I had lived twenty-five years of my life without a family, and I was comfortable with it. I had a pretty eventful day, so I was tired. The children were playing in the garden when I arrived home. I handed Charlotte the bags with sweets and snacks and asked her not to tell the kids that I was already home. I took a quick shower, then went downstairs. Jacques noticed me first. He quickly looked at the clock on the wall, then yelled while running towards me, "Papa's home early!"

I scooped up Jacques, then asked him, "Have you already learned how to tell time, Jacques?" Jacques giggled, then answered me with, "No, papa. You always come home when the small hand is between five and six, and the big hand is on six. Look at the clock. It's different. The small hand is on five today. That means that you are home early, papa." I looked in astonishment at Jacques. The little boy was pretty attentive. I tickled Jacques, then uttered, "You never cease to amaze me, Jacques." I groaned when Dominique crashed into me. I put Jacques down, then picked up Dominique. Dominique grinned at me, then said while opening his hand, "Look at what I found in the garden today, papa." I smiled when I saw a small feather in Dominique's hand. The little boy gazed at the feather then uttered, "It's from a dove, papa. I'm going to add it to my collection of weird things." I did my best to suppress my laugh. I placed a kiss on Dominique's head, then responded to him with, "You are right, Dominique. It's a pretty weird feather. How nice of you to take good care of it."
