The night before her and Hange's anniversary, (Y/N) had been buying last-minute pastries at the nearby café. Hange loved all types of sweets, so she had wanted to surprise them with a breakfast of all of their favorite pastries—Danishes, scones, muffins, and their all-time favorite coffee. It was supposed to be the best breakfast buffet they'd ever get. After all, they had booked tickets to her favorite tourist place. They had put so much thought and effort into her present, she had to reciprocate it. Besides, she wanted the best for Hange anyway. It was crazy how one person had changed her entire life, how one person made her life so much more...lively. Sure, she had her bad days, but now she wanted to really live life. By Hange's side. She wanted to grow old with them, to experience life with them. That was how much they meant to her.
"The strawberry ones really are good," the baker smiled, motioning towards the displayed pastries. There were only a couple more minutes until closing and (Y/N) had to make her selection fast.
"I'll take the cherry and—" Her words were cut off by the shrill tone of her phone. She smiled apologetically before picking up the phone. It was Pieck.
"(Y/N)?" Pieck asked, her voice sounded like she had been crying.
"Pieck, is everything alright?" (Y/N) asked concerned.
"I know it's getting late, and you probably want to go home but...but can you come over? I just saw Porco kiss another girl," Pieck asked meekly. "He's already moved on and I don't think I'm completely over him."
"He's moved on already?" (Y/N) stated incredulously. It was a good thing that she hadn't run into Porco in the last few days otherwise she would have beat him to a pulp. Pieck was amazing, how on earth had he gotten tired of her?
"Yeah. I don't know...I just wanted some company?" Pieck's voice was soft and sorrowful, tugging (Y/N)'s heartstrings. "He officially moved out yesterday, so I got the apartment to myself, and it's so empty and quiet. You don't have to come if you don't want—"
"Nonsense, I'll be there within fifteen minutes," (Y/N) stated, determined. "I got some pastries that we can eat, and we'll watch your favorite movie."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course! I didn't have anything else to do anyway," (Y/N) lied. She knew she was pushing her luck with Hange. They had been so patient and understanding when she had brushed them off the last few days. Hopefully, they'd understand this too.

Hange waited the entire night. They sat on the bed that they shared with (Y/N) and waited. Minutes passed, and then hours, and (Y/N) didn't come home. They had thought that she would have come home by now, they had thought that her schedule involved a consistent pattern...so why wasn't she home yet? Worry coursed through them as they dialed her number repeatedly, hoping that she'd pick up. Night slowly turned into day, and they didn't hear a single peep from her.
At this point, Hange grew extremely worried. (Y/N) normally wasn't this irresponsible. Where was she? Was she okay? Had she even left the office safely last night? Even though Hange hadn't slept for a single second, they didn't feel tired at all. Their worry and anxiety caused them to pace the length of their bedroom, mulling over the potential areas that (Y/N) could be at. They called up Erwin, Levi, Sasha...but none of them knew.
Hange began to panic. Had someone kidnapped her? Had she gotten into an accident? A million and one possibilities swam through their brain. They were consumed with a paralyzing panic that something had happened to (Y/N). Today was their anniversary—the bouquet they had bought (Y/N) sat wilting on her nightstand—yet Hange didn't pay any mind to it. All they wished for was that she was okay. Should they call someone else? Should they call the police? Before they did that, Hange went through their list of contacts again. Someone had to know where she was. Their gaze fell on Pieck's name, and they dialed it immediately. Why hadn't they thought of Pieck before? Surely, she would know where (Y/N) was.
