Back home, everyone in the household had crafted a grave type thing outside to remember their friend by. Every day they used to go out and pay their respects. Though as time went on, they all went to see it less and less, until they only glanced at it every time they left the house.
Glair had always had a sneaking suspicion that ??? wasn't dead and in fact never had been. Glair split from ??? and so ze had always had a deeper connection to it than everyone else. Wolf believed with all hir heart that ??? was still out there somewhere.
Everybody else had disregarded bloods thoughts as disbelief and rejection of the truth, so wolf never did anything to prove them right or wrong. Ze just stayed at home determined that one day they would meet again.
8 months go by. Nothing changed. The grave at the house is near kicked over by inconsiderate teenagers on the streets and ??? is still nowhere to be found. Glair still has the fire inside hir, though a little less blazing.
***
??? had completely forgotten life outside of the wild. It was quite peaceful without anybody around. It quite enjoyed it. By this time it had been living on fish from the river, not even thought about the device it had come out with, the phone.
The people at the house, specially the younger ones, had forgotten all about ???. Michaela was one that kept talking to Lucifer about the whole situation. She couldn't let go the fact she had let this happen and not even said a genuine goodbye.
2 months later, 12 months after the original leaving, ??? started to lose it's fight with the loneliness. It began to dig up areas of the land to desperately attempt to find it's mobile phone for one last time.
After a couple of hours, it happened. It had found it's phone. It opened Michaela's contact and began to type. "I can't take this anymore. It's too much for me. All the absence of human interaction and all the things I used to live on gone. You've probably forgotten all about me now. Goodbye."
With that, it pressed send, threw the phone in a random direction and began to cry and yell and scream. It was all too much for it.
It was a miracle.
The particular direction said phone was thrown in, happened to have free public internet. The phone had signal. All the messages were sent; every text to Michaela sent at the same second - and not too late either.***
Michaela was simply sitting on the floor on her phone in the house talking to Lucifer (standing next to her) when... ping ping ping, never ending, all these texts from ??? coming in at the exact same time. Lucifer looked at the phone and all these notifications coming in and pulled Michaela into the newt room.
"This can't be real!" Lucifer exclaimed as Michaela just stood there in shock. Finally, the final message popped up. It read, "Goodbye". Lucifer knew what they had to do now.
He ran Michaela to the police station to have them scan the phone for a location check. They were sure that, now it had internet, the location could be tracked.
As not to worry anybody else, Lucifer messaged Logan to stay quiet and say that if anybody asks, say that they both went on a walk. Logan understood and made sure to say that Lucifer and Michaela went on a walk together.
Them and the police went to the location of which the phone showed as fast as they could. It was right in a secret place on the edge of all England that nobody really knew about. It wasn't a typical beach, it had a lot more trees and stones rather than sand, so nobody really went there.
They rushed over and saw a person on the dock looking down into the sea. They did not want to waste any time. Lucifer, being the protector, ran over, throwing all they were holding into the stones.
"HEY, HEY, ???!" Lucifer yelled with their hand out reaching for the poor person in front of them. "WAIT." The person looked up and back behind it for a second, looked back down and stepped back from the dock.
Michaela looking towards them both with a very, very worried look in her eyes had managed to convince the person to come back to the side just by making eye contact.
Lucifer let out an audible sigh of relief and wrapped their arms around ??? and murmured lines of thanks, relief and anything with an attempt to make it feel better.
The person only just stood there looking at the floor crying, thinking about the fact for a whole year it hadn't seen anybody at all. It was just standing on the dock looking into the sea. It didn't bother to hug Lucifer back.
