A Festival to Remember

"Techno, no," y/n advised.

"Common, it's only one strength potion. It won't hurt anyone," Techno defended.

"But, that-," halfway through her sentence Techno had already downed the potion.

The two were a ways away from the outdoor boxing ring. Fundy had just challenged Techno to a fight, and he had not intended on losing. Just moments before, the fox man tried to drown Techno in the dunking booth. Key word tried.

It was almost instantaneous for the effects to make themselves apparent in Techno's body. His muscles had started to expand and he could feel an extra pump of adrenaline flood through his veins. Y/n was definitely able to visualize the difference. His shirt seemed like it was sealed from air, outlining every line on his body. It took tons of y/n's determination to get her to look away.

"Alright, time to end some nerds," Techno said, cracking his knuckles.

Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose and followed Techno to the large ring.

"Remember! The winner of this match will get any one of these prizes to take home," Quackity motioned towards a table of stuffed animals.

On that table was a stuffed enderman, ghast, and pig. Techno watched y/n eye the piglet on the table. It's little snout tempting y/n to boop it. Techno smiled and let out a soft sigh. Now he really couldn't afford to lose.

Y/n looked around for a place to watch the match. She looked around until her eyes met a different pinkette. As fast as she could, y/n sprinted towards Niki and engulfed her into a tight hug.

"I've missed you so much," y/n said into the hug.

"I've missed you too," Niki gladly reciprocated.

The two let go and turned to watch Techno and Fundy in the ring.

"I have so much to catch you upon. I don't know where to start."

"I see that you came here with Techno," Niki smirked. "Would you like to tell me about that?"

Y/n started to blush. She understood where her friend was going with this question. It was enough to fluster her, but y/n knew why they were actually there. Sadly, it wasn't for the reason she wanted. Her face fell a little at this realization. But she wasn't going to let some little crush get in the way of her work. Her job was more important than any feelings she may hold for Techno.

"We're only here on Wil's behalf. He wanted us to look into any weak points we can exploit to get L'Manberg back," Y/n explained, quietly.

Niki wasn't a fool. She knew that from the moment she saw them. But from how y/n looked at Techno, and how he looked at her, Niki knew there was something more between her friends. For once she wanted to connect with them without the reminder of a revolt against the government that tormented them. Wanting to steer away from the conversation, she put her full attention on the men in the ring duking it out.

"Techno looks larger than I remember," Niki commented.

"Don't question it," y/n said with a sigh, which resulted in Niki laughing at what was really going on.

She turned back to her friend, watching as y/n eyes seemed to sparkle every time she saw Techno. Niki could tell her friend held a type of passion for him. The way she looks at him is the same way she finds y/n admire the night sky. Especially the moon. "But really though. As your friend, how do you feel about being here with him?"

"Is it really that obvious?" Y/n shrank a bit.

"It's like the moon was brought down to earth. We both know how much you love that thing to death," Niki giggled.

Y/n let out a long sigh. "I guess I do kinda like him," she played with her braid. "It is a little disappointing that we didn't come here together, together. If you know what I mean."

"Oh, I know what you mean. It's a shame though. It would've been nice to see the two of you here on a date instead. But you're too much of a workaholic," Niki lightly nudged y/n.

"Prioritizing L'Manberg's needs has always been important to me and you know that."

"I know," Niki's upbeat aura had calmed as she looked down and let her smile fall. "But doesn't it get tiring? Living for others."

Y/n looked over at Niki, it didn't hit her about how much this war had affected people. Her heart sank at Niki's confession. The thoughts clouded her mind as she continued to wonder if others felt like this.

Cheers boomed around the ring. The fight ended as quickly as it started. Techno had fully enjoyed the glory of destroying Fundy in the ring. He was basking in the cheers and challenged others to dare to test his strength despite some of it being fabricated. Funny's body was knocked out on the floor. Blood poured from his nose and bruises were starting to appear on his body.

Techno stepped down from the ring and waltzed over to the table ignoring Quackity's mention of a drug test. He snatched the piglet and made his way to y/n.

"For you," he said while holding out the pig.

"How did you know?" Y/n took the pig from his hands.

"I saw you looking at it," Techno admitted, Niki in the background trying her hardest not to squeal.

"Thank you," y/n smiled and hugged the two piglets before separating and linking arms with Techno.

"Oh, Niki! Would you like to join us?" Y/n asked her friend.

"Don't worry about me. Have fun during the festival you two!" She smiled and waved them off.

"Are you sure?" Y/n asked again, remembering Niki's comment from before.

"Of course! Now go!" Niki pushed the two of them off.

Techno and y/n took the rest of the day hanging out with one another. There were times where their jobs called and they did gather as much information on Manberg as they could without raising any suspicion as much as possible. But the majority of the time was spent playing games, getting toys and plushies to bring back to Pogtopia, and growing closer than they ever had.
