Chapter Thirty Five
Rodger’s POV
I am in the kitchen finishing up my sandwich when I hear the door open and slam shut. I am about to call out whoever was at the door but when I don’t hear their footsteps I raise a eyebrow and glance to the doorway. I put the piece of bread on my now finished sandwich and walk out of the kitchen, taking a bite as I walk into the hallway.
I find her leaning against the wooden door, her eyes shut. Though otherwise she probably would have looked peaceful she looked disturbed, her face was covered with emotions she didn’t know someone was seeing.
A hint of curiousness floods through me along with worry and a feeling like I want to protect her.
But why?
Well, she had been my girlfriend. From what everyone is telling me, we had been pretty close.
That’s probably why.
“You okay?” I ask her slowly.
Alarm takes over her expression and her eyes fly open, her mouth opening as if she had wanted to scream.
“Fine.” She says finally and then grabs her school bags up from the floor and begins walking towards the stairs but at last minute I step in front of her, blocking her path.
“I don’t know much about you but I already know you’re a bad liar.” I tell her softly, slitting my eyes.
“Awesome.” She mumbles, her eyes falling to her feet. I have noticed this many of times. She wouldn’t meet my eyes, it was as if she couldn’t, like she wanted to avoid me and my gaze whatever chance she got.
“So what’s wrong?” I ask.
“Nothing.” she says. Trying to step around me again but again, I block her path, for some reason I am eager to know her answer.
“Lair.” I tease, laughing slightly, trying to make her at least crack a small smile. “Come on, you can tell me.”
Finally she looks into my eyes, but she isn’t smiling. Her face if black, unreadable.
“Shouldn’t you be laying down somewhere?” she asks me, one of her brown eyebrows raising slowly.
“Shouldn’t you be answering my question?” I question back, avoiding her question like she was avoiding mine.
“Don’t answer my question with another one.”
“Why not? You did.”
She opens her mouth, her eyes searching my face as she tries to find something to come back at me with but when she fails her mouth closes and her eyes fall to the floor again.
“Whatever.” She says, pushing past me quickly.
I turn around and watch as she quickly makes her way up the stairs and from what I can see she runs down the hallway.
I sigh loudly and walk to the kitchen, setting down my sandwich and rubbing my hands over my face while taking yet another loud breath. Finally I turn and walk out of the kitchen, using long strides to make it to her room quickly.
