Y/N's POV
———————————————————————

I had never witnessed a grown man cry until today.

I joined too, of course, and so did Tanjiro and Zenitsu when he woke up. He had not a clue about what we were crying about, but he decided it was worth the sentiment.

In the midst of our grieving, Inosuke shot up into a sitting position from his unconscious state and looks at me in confusion.

I pointed to the body of my father, but he continues to stare at me.

"What?" I question, stopping myself from sobbing any further.

He rubs his eyes and then resumes staring at me, squinting his eyes a bit, "Y/N, why is your shadow so dark?" he asks, "I'm no genius or anything, but even I know that's not normal."

It was my time to judge Inosuke's words, "Just how hard did you hit your head?"

"Pretty hard," he scratches his head, "but my instincts never lie!" he quickly gets to his feet, "I am the most amazing after all!"

"Of course," I say, mildly irritated.

"Now that he mentions it," Zenitsu chimes in, "Your shadow is very dark and suspicious. Maybe it's your mask? You should definitely take it off!"

"What are you talking about?" I look down to see a familiar black circle surrounding me, causing me to swiftly get on my feet to make sure I'm not seeing things, "Oh no," I panic, "No, no, no, no!"

  "Y/N?" Tanjiro questions.

Zenitsu backs away like a frightened child and covers his eyes, not wanting to see the outcome he knows might happen.

I make an attempt to jump out of the circle before it drags me in, but I was already being pulled into it again, "What do I do? Tanjiro, help!"

Tanjiro quickly hobbles his way over to me with his sword in hand, and he rushes to cut the small strands of darkness attached to my leg without wounding me, "It's not cutting! Inosuke, try your blades?" he says desperately.

"On it!" he raises his blades in the air as he runs over, getting ready to start slicing, "Y/N! You will not disappear on us!"

"Does it look like I want to?" I was waist deep at this point, on the verge of being swallowed.

"Makoto, do something!" Zenitsu, who still has his eyes covered, yells in distress.

I look over at Makoto. He was definitely zoned out completely, not caring about his surroundings.

"Grab onto this!" Tanjiro hastily removes his haori and creates a makeshift rope for me to latch onto.

"It's useless, Tamjiro," I stop flailing my arms around, "Farewell."

"Y/N! You promised to stay!" Inosuke says, bursting into tears.

Zenitsu starts to wail in the background, "No!"

Tanjiro placed his head on the ground in despair, knowing he cannot do anything else to help. He softly says, "Try to come back at the very least, okay?"

Darkness.

Jack's POV
(I had to look back because I forgot his name. You might need to as well: Chapter 4)
———————————————————————

"I was not seeing things!" I say to the officer, "Everyone else is just insane to not care about a missing person's disappearance!"

"Jack, calm down. Tell us what you really saw."

Irritation floods my emotions, "I am not lying! She straight up vanished into the ground!"

No matter how many days pass by, I am always treated like some crazy person when it pertains to the missing case of Y/N. I am constantly pestered with useless questions because they think I will "tell the truth" eventually.

"You have to face reality, Jack, it's been a whole year since she has gone missing."

"It may not sound realistic, but that is what happened!"

"Officer Fernandez, please let the poor boy get to school," Y/N's grandmother says, "I'm sure she'll return and tell us all about what happened soon."

The officer sighed, "Fine, go on, kid," I get up to leave, "Mrs. L/N, at this rate, this case is going nowhere."

  "I know."

I close the door, respecting Mrs. L/N's privacy. She had been one of the only people to treat me normally throughout this whole circumstance, so I respected her greatly. She was a wonderful lady, though I pitied her because she genuinely believes her granddaughter will just show up out of the blue one day. I mean, I'm not one to talk, but that idea is a little unrealistic.

I turn the corner, just as I always do after morning questioning, nearing my school's entrance.

I glance toward the street in which Y/N dissipated into the air, as I always do. To this day, I regret not fully stopping her when I had the opportunity right there in my grasp. I clench my fist, the feelings of that day returning. It's almost like I can see her disappearing right now.

Or reappearing? She was definitely not wearing such strange garments before. Is that even her? I'm definitely seeing things.

I continue to walk toward my school, but the thought kept weighing on my mind.

What if there's the smallest possibility that it's her? What if it's a pile of clothes or a person who is passed out? Would I call the police? They are down the street.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I ran to the figure on the ground.

"Excuse me?" I try, "You're loitering on high school property," I touch the figure and turn them over. To my surprise a mask covered their face, so I simply removed it.

I instantly put the mask back on the figure.
