Learning Control

The next morning, Scott woke up rapid knocking on his door. He quickly changed, then yelled, "HOLD ON!" as he leapt off his stairs and wrenched the door open. Looking down, he saw a worried Shrub with a specific crystal in her hand.
"What happened?"
"This thing has been making weird noises and I think it's trying to get inside my head. So, you can have it back, here," she said tossing it over to him. He caught it, and was about to ask if she was okay, when she asked if he could check for any cracks or leaks in it. After a quick examination, je reported that there was nothing wrong with it.
"But if it's nothing...then that means... my people are... dead," she said distantly.
"I'm sorry Shrub. There's nothing wrong with the crystal. Gem's magic is pretty strong. There's no reason why the crystal would leak," he said sadly.
"Oh, I, al-alright. Thank you, Scott. Be careful with that thing though," she said before flying away.
"Well that happened," he thought before making himself more presentable and going to Gem's place.

As he flew above her empire, he saw a majestic building with pure amethyst roofs, grey walls, and a strong deepslate foundation. He landed at the entrance and peered in, amazed at the architecture. Scott was still trying to register the fact that he might be able to completely control his powers, and not have random spurts of raw, unchecked magic. 

 "GEM? YOU THERE?"
"Hi Scott! What brings you here?" The cheerful wizard asked.
"I wanted to know what courses you teach in your academy. I'm having trouble controlling my powers and wondered if you could help," he said.
"Oh! Well I teach Herbology, Potions, Study of Magical Creatures, and there's a mandatory flight course. I don't think you're currently interested in them, so I can add a slot for your request if you want," she replied.
"You would do that?"
"Yeah, you're my friend and ally after all," she smiled.
