Aiyanna
"Aiyanna."
My eyes met the blue ones of my long time partner in Biology class, Mike. I blinked as if it was going to make me focus better.
"Hmm ?"
"I asked you if you think it's prophase or anaphase." Mike repeated.
"Oh, sorry." I mumbled before I put my eye closer to the microscope that focused on slides of onion roots. "Anaphase."
Mike nodded "That's what I thought too." he said before he wrote the answer on both of our papers, since mine was uncapable of writing at the moment.
The reason why I couldn't focus on today's lab was because I couldn't help but keep a close eye on Edward. Checking if he was okay being so close to a scent that was so tempting to him.
Since we were working in groups of two, I saw Edward and Bella talking and working together like regular students during one of my numerous moments of distraction. But from afar, I could see him clench his jaw several times and trying his best to lean far away from her.
"You're jealous." Mike's voice suddenly accused me.
I arched my eyebrows, confused. "Of what ?" I asked him.
Mike shrugged. "Them. You keep looking their way."
"Me ? Jealous ?" I laughed it off, nervously. If only it was just jealousy. "Nah ! I'm okay. Why don't you just give me another slide ? Instead of speaking nonsense." I told him, while bringing my attention towards the microscope.
Mike laughed at me but still obeyed.
Edward was going to be okay. So was Bella. I shouldn't worry this much. I told Edward that I trusted him. How could worrying this much like that, show that I trusted him ? Edward managed to hold himself when her scent had been completely unexpected to him. If in front of such temptation he was able to keep her alive once, he could do it twice.
However, when I glanced at him for a second, Edward was frozen again. His left hand was holding the edge of his table, tightly.
I felt like I was living last week again. The only thing that was different, was that he wasn't covering half of his face.
I didn't know what to do. Especially right now, since Mike was actively pushing me to participate in today's lab. On Edward's side, they looked like they were done with today's task since they were not talking anymore. I caught Bella turning her face towards Edward, and when their eyes met, he gave her a polite smile, his jaw still clenched. Bella didn't look at him long enough to see it, since she lowered her head as soon as he looked at her.
Edward ? - I called him.
I didn't know what to tell him. I just knew that I wanted to distract him.
Edward's head slightly turned towards me, to show that he was listening. This was our own way of communicating during class when we were not seated next to each other. To avoid any suspicions by our comrads, who obviously had no idea that Edward could read people's mind, I just had to look discreetly at his reaction to my thoughts while he looked elsewhere.
The white scenery out the window next to him suddenly made me think of something.
Do you remember the clearing you brought me to, months ago ?
The last time Edward and I went there was in October. He had told me that he particularly liked going there during spring, summer and early fall while the scenery was still green and tinted with the colors of flowers and dead leaves.
