"Is that why you reacted that way, earlier ?" Aiyanna asked.

Her voice was muffled by the scarf covering half of her face while she rested her head on my shoulder. While scanning her mind, I found images of me through her point of view. It was at the cafeteria, when Emmett and Aiyanna had mentioned the possibility of her, turning into one of us. I had been very reluctant and rigid, and didn't leave room for any discussion on the matter.

"I never really thought about this. I feel so stupid now." she sighed with her voice, sounding like she was amused.

"Because you are not supposed to think about those things. Had I listened to my right mind, and I wouldn't have allowed myself to come into your life. I would've acted towards you the same way I act towards other people. I would've let you experience the love story you deserve. With another human."

"I'm glad you ignored your so-called right mind then." Aiyanna said before she leaned her head back to look up at me. "Just because you died already doesn't mean that you shouldn't allow yourself to live. Stop thinking about protecting others and start living and do what's best for you. The way you speak...it sounds like you're still living for others and not for yourself."

How in such little time, did she manage to discern me ? How in such little time, did she manage to read me as easily as I could read her. Although I just had to listen to figure out what she was thinking, her observation sense was almost as accurate as my gift.

"You sound like Carlisle. He already said such words to me."

"Looks like you didn't listen."

"Guilty." I admitted, which made her scoff.

"What are we going to do with you ?" Aiyanna sighed.

Amused, I kissed her forehead. "Think about that later. I'll bring you home. You still need to sleep." I told her.

Aiyanna frowned her eyebrows, pouting like a child. "I'm not even tired..."

...said the one who fell in deep sleep a few minutes after her head hit the pillow.

I had brought her back home, carrying her in my arms. As soon as Aiyanna's body welcomed the warmth that her covers and the heater in her bedroom had to offer, she let out soft moans while nestling in her bed. Only a few hours were left before she would have to wake up again and go to school.

Sitting on the side of her bed, I leaned forward and put my lips on her temple. I had to leave her. Although not being hungry, I had to hunt for the few remaining hours. I managed to replace my thoughts of Bella's scent to Aiyanna's but I couldn't let my guard down. I had to be careful and prepare myself to being invaded by the girl's scent again.

I jumped out of Aiyanna's window, leaving the sound of her slow heartbeat behind me as I ran towards the forest.

I went back to Aiyanna's house before she woke up. I had the time to take a shower and get rid of the blood scent on me, and changing the clothes I had on before I left her. I felt almost swollen from the amount of blood I'd consumed, but I knew the lack of actual thirst would mean little when I would sit beside the girl again.

When I parked beside Emmett's jeep on the school's parking lot where my siblings were waiting for us, the first thing I did was look around to find that truck. Bella's car. She wasn't there yet, but I could still hear the sound of her truck's engine in the distance. She was coming closer.
