you are a shrine maiden at the grand narukami shrine, but you are also quite close to the raiden shogun.
a certain tengu warrior isn't very fond of you.

there's never a dull moment when you work for lady yae, but sometimes that's not always a good thing.
most of the time, yae just uses you to run personal errands for her. most of which involve the almighty shogun.
you loved the shogun, not only because she was your god but because she acted like a mother for you.

you have always lived at the shrine and you never knew your parents. because of this, you saw yae and raiden as a sort of .. stand in.
they didn't mind of course, they loved you in a mother/ daughter kind of way.
there was one person who took issue with this, however. a certain tengu warrior by the name of kujou sara.

sometimes you'd go to find her just to annoy her.
growing up around yae definitely caused you to have a love for chaos. sometimes however, you took things too far. especially when it came to sara. in her eyes, you were going out of your way to make her life miserable. she hated you for it, but she mainly hated you because she thought you were disrespecting the shogun.

the sight of you alone was enough to make her blood boil. this was quite entertaining to you, though. no matter how many times sara tried, she just couldn't get rid of you.
you were a little fly sara oh so wished to squish, but doing so would upset the shogun unfortunately.

there was something else about you that sara really hated too, you were actually funny. of course, you'd sometimes take the joke too far, but other times sara found it difficult to hold in a smile. quite often sara found herself sitting alone thinking of you and how contagious your laughter was, or how nice you looked when you smiled. though whenever she realised she was thinking that way she'd get angry at herself, trying to convince herself again that she hated you.
but she didn't and she knew that.

sara really wanted to be your friend, to look after you, to make you laugh and to protect you all while trying to keep up a façade of wishing you never existed. sometimes it was really difficult to play pretend.

you on the other hand only annoyed her because you had no idea how to approach her otherwise. sara was an absolute girlboss who is so independent it's kinda scary.
sara knew what she wanted and how to get it which was awesome, but when it comes to being a socially awkward shrine maiden who was adopted but also not adopted (but actually totally adopted) by a god and her pet it was very intimidating.

today was one of those days that you had decided to visit sara. probably to tell her a deez nuts joke or something.

"everyone's favourite shrine maiden has arrived. everyone, rejoice ! i have blessed your day once again !"

"get out"
sheesh. cold as always. you should expect this by now, but it always seemed to catch you off guard when she was so harsh with you.

"but i just got here ?"

"i don't care. i don't want you here, i'm busy"
you visibly winced, which sara seemed to notice too. for a split second you could've sworn that she looked quite remorseful.

"geez if i'm that unwanted i guess i'll just take my jokes elsewhere"
sara's eyes widened, seemingly in regret. though to you it couldn't be that at all, she hated you didn't she ?

"i would highly appreciate it. your 'jokes' are not welcome here, nor are you. by now you should surely know that i don't like how disrespectful you are towards the shogun, meaning i also don't like you. the sooner you leave the better."
the both of you gasped as sara had finished, but you understood sara's message loud and clear. you turned around and walked out the door and once you were certain sara could no longer see you you sprinted back to the shrine.

upon arrival you ran to the most isolated area of the shrine to sit and think about everything. to be honest, she was right. your jokes sucked and you didn't treat your own god with the respect she deserved, instead treating her as a good friend or mother. no mortal should treat their god like that.
from now on you decided it would be the best course of action to change how you acted.

over the past week you had barely spent any time at both the shrine and tenshukaku, instead busying yourself with small tasks or exploration around inazuma. you had decided to take on the classic traveller lifestyle, only really sticking in one place for a maximum of a week.

yae and ei took note of this and quickly became worried for your safety. after all, you were like their daughter. mothers worry.
but it wasn't only those two that noticed, sara did too. after the incident sara had tried on multiple occasions to visit tenshukaku or the narukami shrine to apologise, but you were never there.
you had left in the night after your little 'confrontation'.

sara felt extremely guilty and decided that she would spend her time in and out of work trying to look for you, but considering you were almost constantly on the move it was proving quite difficult.
sara even went to ask aether for help as he had far more free time than she did. on top of that, he was a seasoned traveller so finding things should surely be his specialty.

eventually you had decided that you no longer wanted to be out in the wild, sleeping with no protection in the dangerous landscapes of inazuma. finally, you had decided that you weren't invincible and should probably go back to the shrine.
yae seemed to already know you were returning and was waiting for you. seeing her face you thought she would lecture you about running off without telling her, but instead she hugged you so tight you thought she would crush you.

walking into the shrine you saw yet another familiar face. none other than kujou sara herself. naturally the only thing you could do in that situation would be to walk past her, bumping into her on the way as you were very mature. you wanted to be anywhere that currently didn't have sara there too.

"(name), wait. i want to talk to you"
seriously ? now it was your turn to be rude to sara like she had been in the past because to be very honest, you had had enough.

"save it, i'm not interested."
sara grabbed your wrist and lead you to an area of the shrine that was more private than the rest. this is where she kills you isn't it ? your jokes couldn't have been that bad though ??

"i would like to apolo-"

"like i said, i'm not interested."

"please just give me a chance. i was overly harsh with you because of my blind loyalty to the shogun. over the week i noticed that she thinks very highly of you so i was wrong. once again, i'm sorry. could you give me another chance ? i'd love to hear some more of those jokes of yours."
to be honest, you were speechless. you never expected this from sara. but you decided it would be wrong to not give her a second chance. based on her explanation her previous actions seemed .. somewhat reasonable.

"fine. but this is your only chance."
sara smiled at you, clearly happy with your response.

"then i will not let you down."

i wrote smth like 1000 words for this just now since i left it pretty messy. i rewrote some bits and changed others either because it didn't make sense or i didn't like how it was wrote.

not proofread this at all so if there's any mistakes no there's not
if the writing is terrible then oh well shame on u for having high expectations from me 💀
