As Shinichi returned, he found the young thief sound asleep on his couch. He let out a chuckle- that was the second time so far he found him like this.

As quiet as possible, he sat down the hot chocolate on the small coffee table, then eyed the thief from head to toe. It was no good idea to have him sleep in full gear- who knew what kinda bombs could go off if he moved in his sleep.
Shinichi leaned in and rested his hand on KID's shoulder to shake him away, yet found his wrist grabbed in a death grip and his world was sent flying-
"What are you-?!"
KID froze midsentence, Shinichi pinned below him onto the couch. Both stared at each other, speechless. Shinichi nodded over to the hot chocolate with a somewhat amused expression.

"Your drink. You fell asleep."

With a beet red face, KID scrambled off of his friend and let out a halfhearted laugh as the sleuth raised himself back onto his legs and brushed off his clothes.
"My bad, Meitantei. I didn't-"
"Shut it, it's fine. You're careful... you have to be, after all."
Shinichi paused for a second, before looking back at KID who was now quietly and embarrassedly sipping on his mug.
"...I have guest rooms."
"I know."
"...well?"
"Meitantei, you know I can't."
"You're exhausted, KID." Shinichi gently patted his shoulder, smile encouraging, "And I don't trust you to sleep once you're at home. I won't look at your face... you know that."

KID breathed out a sigh and shook his head. He had to think about this but he also knew, Shinichi was right. He wouldn't allow himself to rest once he got home- he had to prepare for his next heist, after all.
"I'll..."
"I won't force you, KID. I won't take a pictures of you, I won't let anybody know. This isn't your first time relying on me, you know? Don't make this be the last. I can help."

Kaito almost deflated a little. Well if that wasn't a convincing Meitantei...
"Alright..." he finally breathed out, pulling out his phone in the same movement, "I'll have to make a call to a friend but I can stay for the night."
"Great." Shinichi showed a smile.

It felt good to know that thief somewhat listened to him at times.

And... Gone.

The moment Shinichi turned back around to Kaito, the white clad thief was gone once again. Well damn. Didn't he say he wanted to make a call?
"I can go ahead and prepare a bed in the meantime..." the sleuth muttered to himself, already on his way out of the study and upstairs to the bedrooms.

Sometimes Shinichi did curse his big house. It was lonely here, with his parents absent most of the time and only Ran paying him visits from time to time, but... he did appreciate that white annoyance paying him a visit from time to time.
Especially now that KID gave him another opportunity to give those BO members another good punch to the gut.

It only took a few minutes before KID made his presence known again with his audible steps in the corridor. Shinichi peeked his head out of the door, only to smile at said thief.
"You're back."
"I never left."
Shinichi tossed a towel into his face, almost knocking off the monocle. KID laughed and caught it half heartedly, turning to fix his monocle again.
"Good night, KID. Don't stay up too long."

Shinichi stretched his arms and let out a soft yawn. God he was more than ready for bed, too.
"I won't. Same goes for you."

KID laid in bed, wide awake, even tho his body was aching and begging him for sleep.

I can feel it.

Minutes felt like hours. KID could feel his arm pulsing; the twitch in his flesh whenever the clock moved a second.

It's counting down.

Turning onto his side, KID buried his arm under his body and blanket, hoping to snuff out the feeling it brought him. Laying on needles, thoughts running wild, and the darkness around him was almost suffocating.

Goddammit.

KID sat up, turning on the lights. There was no way he could sleep with this timer moving on his arm. Maybe he could ask Akako about it? On the other hand, what if she confirmed what he was already thinking about?
KID shuddered. He didn't exactly want to pass on before finishing his business here and yet, he felt powerless to decide this time.

The witch wasn't exactly pleased to have her cellphone ringing in the middle of the goddamn night. With her beauty sleep now interrupted, she angrily pushed off the blankets in her huge queensized bed, swung her legs out and snatched her phone from the nightstand. Without even looking at the caller idea she picked up the call with a snarky sounding
"What do you want?!"

KID whinced. It was very uncommon for someone to not even greet the other person, so Akako must have been in a terrible mood.
"Akako, I... might have a small issue."
"Kuroba. Of course. Who else. Do you have any fucking idea what you just interrupted?"
The thief paused for a moment. His first answer would have been her sleep, but regarding how she phrased it, he deeply hoped it had not been some sort of ritual she had been preparing.
" My beauty sleep!!"
Ah. There was the answer. Visibly relaxing, KID fell back onto his bed with a soft sigh.
"I know. I'm sorry. Akako, you know I wouldn't call if it wasn't important."
"You better hope so, if it isn't important you better watch your steps the next years!"

Wow she was angry. KID paused for a second.
"It's... I think it's magic, and I don't know who else to ask."
Akako turned quiet at her end of the line for a hot second. Kuroba Kaito, asking her about magic? The one who defiles her true blood magic with his puny little tricks that he himself calls magic?
"...continue."
"It's difficult to explain. Can I come over? I think you have to see it."
Akako flashed a glance at her large grandfather clock standing in the corner of her luxurious victorian style bedroom. Past midnight. She didn't have school tomorrow- fine.

"...Alright but just this once and I am NOT doing this for free, Kuroba."
"Yeah yeah. I'll be there in a bit."
Without dignifying his response, Akako hung up and Kaito climbed out of his bed to get dressed once more. Oh Shinichi was going to be mad when he wasn't there in the morning but on the other hand, he should have expected him to disappear on him.

He could only pray that Akako wouldn't let him disappear forever after he woke her up.
