Shinichi turned on the dim light on his desk as he returned while Kaito closed the door behind them. Both remained silent as they took off their shoes and undid their jackets. Finally, Kaito was the first one to break their silence.
"...how about some takeout?"
Shinichi snorted.
"Takeout at 2am in the morning?"
Kaito paused, then looked at his watch. Was it already that late? That did losen up a bit of the tension, with both of them giggling a little.

"So what now?"
Shinichi paused, turning back to the white clad thief.
"I'd suggest a change of clothes and a drink."
"Agreed."

Only a few minutes later, both sat in Shinichi's living room with a mug and in comfier clothes than before. Kaito seemed weirdly fidgety and Shinichi didn't even have to ask. Of course he would be- with his clock literally running out of time.
"...how on earth do you manage to keep this up?" the sleuth finally asked, voice a little soft. Kaito could hear the concern laced within.
"Well... When you could leave so much behind... and there is a very real chance you could die... when you're not ready to die... your body just keeps going on its own."
Shinichi took a sip of his mug, falling into deeper thoughts. He could only remember how it was for him, during cases where he would fight for his own life with a rush of adrenaline keeping him moving. But the entire time? Shinichi knew just well this was far from healthy, especially for the magician.

A small yawn interrupted Shinichi's thoughts and he perked up. KID was tired. It was only a question of when, not if he was going to fall asleep at this point.

"I could help you plan your heists if you want," Shinichi innocently hummed, hiding his smile behind his mug. He only had to keep KID busy for just a tiny bit until he would fall asleep.
"How would you be able to help?"
"Well you can't deny you're at the edge of your abilities right now and as of now, the chance you could overlook something is high. Wouldn't want you getting caught now."
"Point taken."
Kaito had to admit, Shinichi was right. If it wasn't for the amount of caffeine in his body, he would have broken down since a while.

And thus, both of them sat down next to each other, Kaito unwrapping a plan of the building he was about to raid the next night. Shinichi watched him explain, nodded along and threw in pointers here and there. He had to admit, if he wasn't so worried about KID and this would be legal, he would have enjoyed this.
But for now, he tried to keep Kaito engaged, busy, and soon enough, the thief's head tilted against his shoulder in midst of drawing another line on the building plan.

Shinichi sighed. Finally.

He eyed the sleeping thief with a soft smile, before leaning over and grabbing the blanket at the edge of the couch and wrapping it around the thief. It was almost a miracle that KID hadn't been woken up by the movement, but Shinichi only took that as a sign of how exhausted the Kaitou was.

I'm just going to stay here.

If I move any more he'll wake up.

In the dim light of the living room, Shinichi studied the KID's face. Had it ever looked so peaceful? He couldn't remember. KID was always so far away from him, he could always stretch out his hand to try and catch him but he never did.
And now, he was sleeping against Shinichi's shoulder. What a curious twist of events. The sleuth believed they had never been as close as now, and the amount of trust KID was putting into him right now made him smile a little.
Shinichi was glad about it.

And with him watching KID sleep, he felt the same rush of warmth and excitement he always felt competing and chasing after KID, but with him being so close it was so much more.
Shinichi took a deep breath, cheeks warm.

He was just happy that his friend wasn't picking up his heartbeat.

Kaito woke up to birds chirping and blinding sunlight, and with the most awful headache he had ever had. With a soft groan, he covered his eyes and noticed stirring next to him.
He turned to look to his left, only to see Shinichi waking up as well- both stared at each other for a hot second, before Shinichi's lips curled up into a cocky smirk.
"Slept well?"
"You bastard."
"Funny how the tables have turned, to see you cursing at me is kind of funny."
"Kudo...!"
Shinichi let out a laugh and stood up, before grinning at the frowning KID.
"You don't look so good tho."
Finally, Kaito eased up a little and sighed, covering his eyes again.
"I have a raging headache and the sun isn't helping..."
"I'll get you an aspirin. Stay put, and I'll even make you breakfast. How's that sound?"

Kaito wrinkled his nose.
"Godawful. Your cooking sucks, Shin-chan. No offense."
"You can also go die in a hole if you want to."
Whincing at the intended bite in Shinichi's voice, Kaito resigned himself to his fate. He was not in the mood to be kicked out with his headache.
"...I'm down for a sandwich tho."
"Sandwich it is. Can't exactly mess that one up either. Hot chocolate?"
Kaito nodded once more and with that, Shinichi disappeared into the bathroom to find the bottle of aspirin he kept for emergencies.

The thief watched him disappear with a fond expression on his face.

Since when does Meitantei know me so well?

His lips curled up into a small smile as he leaned back into the blanket.

It's downright creepy.

Does feel good though.
