I think that this was the fastest that I have ever done anything. Mal hadn't given me much time to put my plan in motion, and I had no idea what to pack for the Isle. However, I did my best and managed to put everything into a backpack. I wasn't sure that bringing my phone would be useful since I didn't think that there was service on the Isle, but I packed it anyway. Then I left my notes and ran to the beach.
Mal was there with her scooter, but it didn't seem like I had kept her waiting too long. I hopped onto the back seat like she motioned me, and waited for her to do whatever she was going to do. Luckily, she pulled out her spell book, and read a spell.
"Noble steed, proud and fair, you shall take me anywhere," she read.
She closed the book and put it away, and I felt an odd tingling sensation. She whispered, "please work," and started driving towards the sea.
Oh, Poseidon, help us.
But Mal's spell worked and we zoomed across the water. We got closer and closer to the barrier, and I wasn't exactly sure what was going to happen, so I squeezed tighter onto Mal and closed my eyes. After a little bit of pressure hit my body, I slowly opened my eyes and saw that we were there. We were on the Isle of the Lost.
It was nothing like Auradon. I had seen it from my window every day, but never like this. It was colorful but in its own sort of grunge way. Most of the streets looked like bazaars, and everyone's clothes looked like they had been made from spare fabrics and ripped clothing. The island had definitely developed its own style. However, the strangest thing of all to me was that it seemed familiar, almost like those liminal spaces I had seen on the internet. It seemed like a place I had seen many times, but I knew I couldn't remember any part of it.
Mal drove us through the marketplaces, nearly knocking passersbys over in the process. She parked the scooter in a hidden area near where we had come, and we got off. We took off our helmets and grabbed our things, and she motioned for me to follow her. She walked about 7 feet to this bin of rocks and threw one at a sign that ironically read WARNING: flying rocks. The Isle already had a better sense of humor than Auradon.
The sign knocked back and caused a gate to open, revealing stairs to somewhere. Mal looked at me with a reassuring look, and grabbed my hand, leading me up the stairs. At first, I had thought she didn't want me to come with her here, but now she seemed a little like a child giving her best friend a tour of her house.
When we made it up the stairs, Mal brought me to what sort of looked like the inside of an apartment. There was a beat-up sitting area with a couch and multilevel flooring that brought you higher up against the mural walls. All the walls were covered in spray-painted artwork. I assumed that this place used to be her's because the artwork looked a lot like her style.
She walked over to the couch and threw her things onto it. She sighed, putting her hands on her hips and looking around. "I need to repaint some of the walls," she said, mostly to herself. She looked and saw a cobweb near the wall and batted it away with her hand. "And clean."
"This was your's?" I asked her as I sat my things down on the floor.
"Yeah, I know it's not a castle like what you are used to, but it's mine," she told me with a small smirk. "But enough about that," she said, walking back over to me. "You happen to look a little more VK than normal," she said, looking me up and down.
I had changed before leaving and wasn't sure if the villains on the Isle would like to see the princess of Auradon on their island, so I aimed to blend in. I had taken some inspiration from what the VKs had been wearing when they first came to Auradon, but in all truth, I had chosen something I had wanted to wear for a while, but knew my parents would think that it was not "fit for a princess". I had stuck with the blue and yellow colors of Auradon though.
