beomgyu embraces yeonjun tightly, not saying anything. he just hugs him, rubbing yeonjun's back as an attempt to calm him down, but yeonjun's silent protests exploded, and he sobs, loudly.
it hurt to see the oldest hurting, and taehyun suddenly feels incredibly guilty. he should have known if something was wrong with yeonjun, and shouldn't have yelled at him.
soobin rushes in later on, panting heavily. kai runs to him and jumps into him, and soobin catches him and mouths at taehyun asking if everything was alright.
taehyun shrugs, and soobin sighs, looking at the scene in front of him and he felt his heart twinge.
yeonjun on the floor, looking terrified and crying his eyes out, and a tiny beomgyu hugs the other, and it was upsetting to see the smaller one attempting to soothe the bigger one, since yeonjun was always the one looking after beomgyu.
soobin notices taehyun's eyes never leaving the duo, occasionally wiping at the corner of his eyes and chewing on his lips. soobin doesn't ask, and doesn't do anything, knowing that it's probably best to leave taehyun alone when he's distressed unless he comes up to you himself.
the room was silent, except for yeonjun's occasional sniffles and sobs. he was slowly gaining back his composure, and his vision wasn't so dark anymore.
he knows where he is, he recognises the place, and he recognises who's hugging him.
beomgyu.
his beomgyu.
his baby cub.
and he wants to cry all over again, but he forces himself not to. he stops trembling, and he just focuses on beomgyu's breathing. he smells like strawberries and cream, his favourite scent in the world.
slowly, beomgyu pulls away, and yeonjun wanted to whine. he stares at beomgyu's face, and he notices that there were remaining tear streaks visible on his face, and his eyes were as glassy as his own.
"are you hurt?" beomgyu asks softly, grabbing yeonjun's hand and rubbing circles on them.
yeonjun shakes his head, too tired to give a verbal response. beomgyu glances at yeonjun's fingers, he had a bad habit of picking at the corner of the nails, which beomgyu has told him repeatedly that he should stop.
"have you been picking at them again?" beomgyu asks, whispering softly, and yeonjun realises that he has been, even more frequently than usual. it wasn't as if he wasn't aware, he was aware. he just didn't want to do anything with it, since it helps relieve of his internal pain.
"yeah." yeonjun says, looking at the floor, not feeling worthy enough to look at beomgyu.
the room goes silent, and yeonjun sees soobin's figure approaching them before leaning down behind beomgyu.
"it's okay~" soobin says in a empathetic tone that instantly make yeonjun look up to see what was going on.
beomgyu's eyes were watery, and a single tear slips past his eyelids. he covers his mouth with his left hand and he lets out a small laugh, waving soobin away and telling him that he's fine.
"can we go home?" beomgyu asks the others, slowly getting up and brushing his pants. the others nod, and beomgyu looks at yeonjun, who was still sitting on the floor. he offers a hand, and yeonjun takes it.
that was the first time in days that someone held yeonjun's hand, and he smiled.
he wasn't alone after all.
——————————————————————————
the five of them decided to just go straight home after yeonjun's (and beomgyu's) meltdown, not really in the mood to listen to boring lecturers rambling about stupid subjects.
