Broken Promises

The family were still outside Irene's room, witnessing how the woman fights for her life. Her vital signs are dropping, they're now doing compression and there's still no pulse.

"Mommy, no.." Kate whispers, Imee tightens her hug. Other doctors rushed inside, even Kate's bestfriend who just arrived from America, Dra. Alyssa Mignonette Martinez helped.

"Let me do it, doc.." Aly told the doctor, they let her do the compression, still no pulse.

"Tita, you got this.." She whispered, still doing the compression. After minutes of pumping, finally.

"There's a pulse! Check vital signs, check vital signs!" Aly exclaimed, she smile at Irene. The other doctors were amazed about how she did that.

Nabuhayan naman ng loob ang pamilyang nasa labas ng kwarto ni Irene nung nakita nilang may pulso pa ito. The family hugged each other as tears streamed down to their cheeks.

Irene's condition went stable temporarily, the family thanked all the doctors and nurses who did their best to save Irene, especially Alyssa.

"No worries Mister President, it's my job to save people and I'm deeply honored to help." Alyssa exclaimed, Bongbong smiled at her same goes with the other Marcos'.

"Thank you, ate Aly.." Kate said, they shared a hug that has been last felt years ago.

"No worries Iya, call me when something happens. I need to go, I still have more patients to check, excuse me po." Aly excused herself from the family, the family nodded as they give her a genuine smile.

Irene slowly opened her eyes, nanghihina at napakaputla. She asked for water that alarmed the family, they immediately stood up and went to her side, Borgy gets her water as she requested.

"H-How are you feeling ma?" Kate asked her worriedly, holding her hands, she's nearly crying she's just preventing herself to do so.

"I feel so weak, anak.." Irene replied and manage to smile. Kate sat on her mother's hospital bed.

"Irene, we'll tell the doctors to treat your disease na ha. Malala na masyado ading and it will be more difficult for you kung hindi ka magpapagamot.." Imee tried to convince her sister, she values her so much and she doesn't want to lose her, none of them wants.

Irene zoned out after hearing what her sister said, "I'm tired already, manang.." she trailed on.

Kate's eyes begins to water, she knows what her mom exactly meant. Imee and Bongbong went to her side as they both hugged their sister tight but gentle, not long after, Imelda arrived together with Aimee.

"Bunsoy, you'll fight for mommy hm'kay? For your childrens, for your siblings and for everyone who loves you dearly.." Imelda said softly, Irene is breathing hard but she compose herself so no one would worry. Kate chose to walk away, she went to sit on the sofa. She doesn't want this, this is so painful for her witnessing her mother fights for her life.

"Whatever happens, promise me you'll take care of my children ma.." Irene said, stuttering. She's having a hard time talking because she's running out of breath.

"I promise anak.." Imelda assured, she hold her daughter's hand.

Their isn't a painful scene than a mother witnessing her daughter hardly fighting for her life.

"K-Kate, baby.." Irene calls, that made Kate sob, she quickly went to her mother's direction wiping her tears away.

"I love you always and forever, m-mommy will always be present in your heart. Sorry if I won't be able to fulfill my shortcomings to you 'nak, believe me I really want to but I'm running out of time, you go chase your dreams hm'kay? You'll finish your studies ha, ngayon palang alam kong magiging successful ka not because I know that you're good but because I know you'll make effort to be one, I'll just advance my congratulations to you my love, I'm so proud of you, on how you've became and how you'll become in the future, you're my number one and I will still support you, perhaps not physically but I will. Go and conquer my Atty. Iya, stay humble and strong as you are right now.." Irene weakly cooed while holding Kate's hands, her daughter keeps on disagreeing, she knows that she's hurt so she pulled her gently for a hug. She kissed her forehead for a minute, they both pressed their foreheads, Irene kissed the tip of her nose and finally her lips.
