When Charlotte is left devastated by her boyfriend's infidelity. She finds herself persuaded into a night out with her friends. In which she meets a charming man who protects her at an unexpected moment.
After trying to forget the night even happen...
"You look so fucking hot in this dress," he whispered. "If there weren't so many people around us, I'd fuck you right here and now," I sputtered, choking on my champagne and causing him to laugh "Offers up for grabs, darling, though. I'm positive it would be frowned upon."
"Later," I reminded him, "later you can make me yours, remind me of who I am to you." He leaned his head in, causing me to take in the smell of his fresh cologne, something I always adored, lightly flavored with a cigar, though I had only seen him smoke once.
I peered at the tattoo on his neck with a heart against his placing my hand on it and moved it to his chest, placing my hand over his heart over his blazer, which covered his newest tattoo, which displayed Caroline, the name of our little girl and underneath mine Charlotte Bartlett the names of the most precious things in his world, his wife and his daughter.
He took my hand, spinning me away and back to his chest, dipping me, causing me to laugh at his action. "That wasn't a tango, more so a salsa."
"I don't really dance; you married a terrible dancer, Nathaniel," he smirked at me.
"I'd do it again over and over if it meant I got to hear that laugh forever." I couldn't help but blush at his words.
He drew me away from the crowds to a garden in the back, followed by the view of New York, removing a cigar from his pocket and lighting it. The city lights were blinding at night and, in a way, presented themselves as a work of art.
He sucked it in and puffed it out as the smell of it began to linger. I took the cigar from his mouth, placing it in mine, taking him by surprise. It tasted absolutely disgusting, but it was hot as fuck "Want to blow this party off?" He suggested.
"Wouldn't be the first time." The doors behind us opened to a tall woman with a camera in hand.
"Mr and Mrs Crawford, we need you for some photos, please." She gestured inside, and I nodded. We were so close.
We walked back onto the marble flooring into the cool building, walking back into the event room as he took my hand, bringing it to his lips and then moving it to the small of my back.
"Fuck yeah, there they are!" We turned to see her in front of the camera, standing next to a boy who looked nervous as hell once we came in eye view.
He was cute, skinny, and scrawny, giving off Peter Parker's Potential. "Charlie, Nate!" she buzzed as we walked over.
"Jill, how many glasses has it been?" She giggled softly "just two Charlie, stop being such a helicopter mom" she smiled and we turned to the boy with tan skin, light freckles and brown eyes with soft brown curled hair, he was just an inch or two taller than Jillian.
"And who is this?" I flashed a friendly smile at him, and he shed one back.
"This is my boyfriend Cameron. He goes to Amherst with me, and I asked him to join me tonight. I wanted him to meet you both. Cam, this is my brother and sister, well, sister-in-law, but sister." I offered my hand to him, which he accepted.
"Nice to meet you, Cameron. It's Charlotte." He let go of my hand and turned to Nate, offering his hand.
To my surprise, Nate shook it. "Nice to meet you, Cameron..." he paused, waiting for a last name.
"Skinner," Nate nodded, gripping his hand and shaking it. "Nate Crawford, nice to meet you, Cam. You got a good sailors' grip."
"Thank you, sir," he nodded.
"Alright, well, I'm going to force Cameron to dance and give him secondhand embarrassment." She dragged him away before he could speak again.
I turned to Nate "he seems like a good kid" I squeezed his hand, he'll forever be protective of his baby sister as I am of Belle.
"He is," he mumbled and looked at me. "I already tracked down his info when I was informed of her relationship by security; he's a good kid. Low-income family but is a good kid. Very smart, a good student, and is on a full academic scholarship. No criminal record whatsoever and he takes good care of her, she's happy" a light smile formed on his face.
"She deserves to be happy," I whispered. She's been through too much not to gain it." We watched as she danced horribly as Cam turned away, laughing at her.
We were pulled by the photographer to take pictures for the press for a while. "Just a few more photos, and then we can go home," he said hungrily.
