Chapter Nine

I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror as I blended the makeup onto my face. I usually didn't wear very much makeup and tonight was no exception. I fixed my eyebrows and put my mascara on, making the classic face that I was pretty sure every girl made when they put their mascara on.

Czara came strolling in and plopped herself next to me on the bathroom counter; we decided to get ready at her house since she had the bigger bathroom.

As I put the finishing touches on my face and fixed my hair, Czara threw a bundle of clothes at me.

"What the hell, Cesar?!"

She held a finger up to me, her hand on her hip.

"First of all, don't call me that. And second, put those on."

"Why should—"

"Just shut up and do it, bitch," she called as she sauntered out of the room. I listened, only because I didn't care what I wore. It was probably better than what I had picked out anyways.

I unraveled the bundle of clothes that she had thrust at me and decided her choice was better than what I had brought. I slipped on the black tube top and ripped knee jeans and threw on the distressed jean jacket over it. I pulled on my black chucks and headed for the door where Czara was already waiting for me.

"Damn, girl you look good!" She cat-called as she ushered me outside and to her black Mini Cooper. I don't know why she wanted this car; it was like a damn wind-up toy.

She pulled out of the driveway and down the street, turning onto the busy LA freeway. As I watched the other cars whiz by, I thought about how long it had been since I really let loose since the incident. I came to realize that I hadn't and that this could be what I needed to get myself back on track. I hoped that tonight would go well; I needed it badly.

As the sun began to creep across the sky, we climbed up a large hill that overlooked the entire city. We crept up the large driveway where about forty other cars where already parked, most of which were Mercedes, Range Rover, or others of that sort.

As I climbed out of the tiny toy car, I took in the sight that was around me. This mansion was the biggest one I had ever seen. It must have sat on several acres of land and overlooked a sprawling green golf course. The house itself was two stories and was made entirely of brick with some vines growing up the sides. We entered in through the giant wood doors and were immediately thrown into the party.

Czara grabbed my hand and pulled me behind her as she made her way over to the bar. She poured me a drink; I wasn't sure what it was, but it was just strong enough to get me going. We ran, drinks in hand, over to the dance floor that had been set up and soon, we lost ourselves in the rhythm of the music that blasted throughout the entire house.

Every now and then, one of us would go back and grab another drink until we were both absolutely sloshed. I danced under the flashing lights, my veins pumping and full of vodka. Soon, the room began to spin; I soon found myself in the backyard under strings of lights where a few people mingled. I sipped on the last of my beverage and walked to the edge of the grass, looking out at the twinkling lights of the city. I stood there for a while, sipping on my drink. As I looked out at the city, I felt a small amount of happiness begin to well up inside of me.

I was glad I came.

CZARA'S POV

The party was really going like I had expected. I was dancing with November on the dance floor when I received a text message from the boy who invited me. I snuck away from November, leaving her swaying to the beat of New Flame by Chris Brown. I pushed myself through the crowds of people and up the twisted stairs to the roof, while taking short sips of my cup of water. I felt kind of bad; I had been giving November drinks all night and refilling my cup with water. She needed to have fun; I needed to watch her, so I couldn't be as drunk as she was right now. She tended to lose herself at parties.

As I emerged out under the stars, I was welcomed by a tall, lanky figure dressed in all black with a wild head of hair. He grinned as I stepped closer, spilling his drink a little bit.

"Hey, Luke," I blushed. I couldn't hide my crush on this boy. I was amazed when he responded to my DM about a month ago and we had been talking ever since. It was almost like old times. November was my best friend, but back when we all used to hang out, Luke and I were really close too. When she and Michael broke things off, Luke and I drifted apart, trying to comfort out two broken best friends.

Luke and I hadn't talked since they had become famous. November didn't know that they were famous; she had never heard their music and had never seen them on TV. She wasn't really on social media all that much; she kept to herself mostly which was why I forced her to come with me tonight.

He stepped closer and enveloped me in a tight hug, his height consuming me.

"I'm glad you came," he grinned widely. This boy had the biggest smile and boy, was it dazzling.

"Thanks for inviting me," I thanked him as I brought my cup up to my lips.

He pointed to my cup with his beer hand.

"Whatcha drinking, Cesar?" He teased playfully. I hated when people called me that, but with him, it was a different story. It was like a pet name with Luke. I was Cesar, and he was my breadstick.

I shrugged as I help up my cup, "Just water."

"That's boring. Why aren't you drinking?"

"Well someone's gotta take care of November. You know how she gets at parties."

His face fell at the mention of her name.

"You came with her?" He questioned with wide eyes.

I was confused. I hesitated for a moment, not sure if that was okay with him or not or why he would be so worried.

"Yeah...why?" I asked nervously.

He was silent for a moment. He took a long sip from his beer and looked around him. He was making me nervous for his answer.

"Michael's here."
