When Teresa and Thomas were pulled from the Slammer for the Banishment, Thomas lay still, pretending to be unconscious as Teresa was escorted by Dan, her arms loosely tied behind her back, walking in front of him.
"This is such a waste," Gally muttered as he looked at Thomas' motionless form on the ground. Grace stood off to the side with Newt, wiping the sweat from her palms onto her jeans before Newt reached over and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, his silent nod of acknowledgment steadying her nerves.
"Gally..." Winston began, his voice uncertain. Gally turned to face him. "It doesn't feel right, man."
"Yeah, what if Thomas is right?" Clint added, glancing at the body of Thomas on the ground. "Maybe he can lead us out of here."
"We are home," Gally snapped, pointing toward the wall that bore their names. "I don't want to cross off any more names from that wall."
Teresa's voice broke through the tension. "You really think banishing us is going to solve anything?" she asked as Gally turned back to face her, his expression unreadable.
"No," Gally replied, shaking his head slowly. "This isn't a banishing. It's an offering."
Before anyone could react, Billy moved quickly, pulling Teresa toward a nearby pole and tying her hands above her head. Teresa struggled against the restraints, her voice rising in disbelief. "What? Wait! Gally, what are you doing?"
"You really think I'm going to let Thomas back into the Maze after what he's done?" Gally's voice was cold, his eyes scanning the Glade. "Look around you. Look at our Glade! This is the only way. And when the Grievers get what they came for, everything goes back to the way it was."
"Are you hearing this? Why is everyone just standing there? He's crazy!" Teresa shouted, glancing toward Grace, silently pleading for help.
Gally pointed at her with a sharp, accusing finger. "You shut up."
Teresa's gaze turned to the other Gladers now. "If you stay here, the Grievers will come back," she said urgently. "They'll keep coming back... until you're all dead!"
"Shut up!" Gally barked. "Tie him up!" He pointed at Thomas, but neither of the Builders moved. "Do you hear me? I said tie him up!"
Just as the Builders reached for Thomas, he snapped into action, elbowing one of them in the face before grabbing a long spear—placed there by Grace—and knocking the other Builder to the ground with a brutal blow.
The chaos erupted quickly. Newt swung his machete, knocking another Builder unconscious, while Teresa kicked Billy in the groin, causing him to double over in pain. Frypan immediately rushed over, cutting Teresa free from the pole.
Minho, ever the quick thinker, pressed his knife against Gally's throat. "Move, and you're dead," he warned.
Chuck appeared, running toward them with a bag of supplies, which Grace quickly threw over her shoulder. The group gathered in front of the West Door, weapons raised and ready to defend themselves.
"You're full of surprises, aren't you?" Gally sneered, eyeing them all.
"You don't have to come with us," Thomas said, his voice firm. "But we are leaving." He glanced at the Gladers around him. "Anyone else who wants to come, now's your last chance."
"Don't listen to him," Gally shouted, his voice frantic. "He's just trying to scare you."
Thomas shook his head. "No, I'm not trying to scare you. You're already scared. I'm scared too." He paused, the weight of his words sinking in as Grace exchanged a quick look with Newt, taking a second machete from him. "But I'd rather risk my life out there than spend the rest of it in here. We don't belong here. This place isn't our home. We were put here. We were trapped here. But out there, at least we have a choice. We can make it out of here. I know we can."
