I yawned, dropping onto the bed in the darkness and pulling my duvet over my body as I snuggled with Mr Teddy, the only bear I had kept.
Today had been tiring but had been fun for the most part. Alex had come to the Diner today again and we had talked while I served people. He told me how he was going to look for a house closer to this area, how he's got a job at the new club that opened up as well, but he doesn't start until the next week. He had said how his life had turned around ever since meeting me and it had been the best thing anyone had said to me in a long time.
I smiled to myself just as Shawn and Camila started singing Senorita on my phone. My ringtone. I turned around, groaning as I patted my nightstand and blinked at the number.
Penthouse Stalker. He or she?
Quickly sitting up in bed and ignoring the two am time, I answered the call. "Hello?"
"Hello baby." His deep voice seemed to vibrate through the phone and onto my skin as goosebumps crawled up my back. "Apologies for not picking up your phone yesterday. I had my hands full."
"Oh." I couldn't think straight at the way his words were a slight drawl, as if he was relaxed, and not talking to someone he didn't know at all. "Who are you?"
"Names are not important."
"It is, if you know mine."
His chuckle made my heart race quicker and I pushed a hand through my hair as he answered. "Emily Brooks. Age, nineteen, works at Mick's Diner-"
"You're stalking me."
"I'd call this a very expensive way of stalking. I found your wallet."
"My wallet does not have the place I work at. That's something you learnt which means you stalked me." I blurted out.
"If I remember correctly, there were a few receipts that belonged to Mick's diner with your name on it as the person who served them. Am I wrong, baby?"
There was amusement in voice and the way he said baby sent tingles through my fucking body. "Why are you doing this?"
"Think of me like your guardian angel."
"Can you send the young boy to pick up the keys to the penthouse, please?"
There was silence on the other end for two extra long seconds until he asked. "Did you not like it? I can send a few other places to you if you'd like to look. Laura did say you came in today."
"I knew she wasn't telling me the truth." I frowned. "Does the doorman know of you sending me money and giving me a free penthouse?"
"The doorman has a name."
A smile appeared on my face. "Are you the doorman?"
He chuckled. "I must be honest and say you did look absolutely beautiful today, baby. Blue is my favourite colour." Heat crawled up my cheeks as I leaned back against the bed, in the silent house, a small smile on my face. "But no, I'm not the doorman."
"You are. There were only two other men who saw me, or did you come out with the group of men?" The curiosity was killing me.
"I saw you through the live footage of the cameras. Does that satisfy your curiosity?"
"Uhuh." I sighed before sitting up straight. "I used the money."
"It was for you to use."
"I know. I said I wouldn't use it but I.. lost thirty thousand and then I had to pay for something hence why I used the m-"
"Emily." I instantly shut up. "You do not need to explain where you spend the money. I will send you more tonight."
"No." I blurted out, shaking my head as if he could see me. "I'm going to pay you back. It's going to take me a while and you'll have to stand in a line-"I let out a breathless laugh. "But I'll pay you back."
"Baby, listen to me, will you?" I wanted to listen to his deep voice. What the fuck was wrong with me? "Anything I give you, is a gift and I'm sure you are aware gifts are not returned."
"Your gift giving is too expensive. At the end of the day or night, you are a stranger. You will not tell me your name, you will not show your face, for all I know you're trying to frame me for something."
His laughter was beautiful. A deep laugh that warmed my heart in a cringy way. "What exactly will I frame you for? For being cute?"
I was blushing at the words of a stranger I had never met.
"No matter what you say, I will try my very best to pay you back."
"The thirty thousand you lost will be sent to your bank." His words were a clear statement, leaving no room to argue except I shook my head again as if he could see me.
"Please don't. I don't want to accept the gift."
"It comes with no returns, baby."
I sighed. "Will you tell me your name? How do I repay you?" It would hang over my head for the rest of my life if I didn't find a way to pay the stranger off.
"Goodbye, Emily Brooks." He cut the call and I blinked at the screen in the darkness.
I edited his name on my phone.
Mr Hot Voice Penthouse.
