"What are you waiting for? Do it now!" Hugo shouts.
Varian aims the Truth Ray at the Angst, and pulls the trigger. To his relief, the bright blue beam envelops both him and the creature. In his surprise, he drops the device to the ground. "It-It appears to be working!"
Cassandra wraps her arms around Varian nervously. "Can you talk with it?"

Varian stares up at the creature, considering what to say. The feel of Cassandra's arms around his waist comforts and calms him. "Hello, my name is Varian," he says, attempting to reach out to the creature. "Can you think of something so I can hear you?"

The voice is so soft and quiet in his mind, that Varian almost doesn't perceive it. But once he registers what the Angst has said, he grins. Cassandra sees this, and sighs with relief. She turns her head to face the others, and gives them a thumbs-up to confirm.
"This is an invention I created," Varian explains. "I was hoping it would allow me to communicate with you. It's harmless."
why would you want to communicate with me?
"Because you've been attacking us, and we want to know why!"
