Dominic smirked.
“I see where this is going. I hooked up with her, didn’t I?”
The girl smiled softly. “You did more than that Dominic, you guys fell in love.”
Dominic laughed. “I don’t fall in love,” he said, crossing his arms.
“What? you think it ruins your bad boy image?” The girl challenged, smirking. “Huh, Virgil?”
Dominic’s smirk fell.
“How do you know that?” He never had anyone talk to him the way she did. Usually people just ignored him. He didn’t know if he liked it or not.
“I’ve known you for along time, Dominic,” she said softly. She looked at the ground before shaking her head before looking up.
“You guys were together that Summer,” she started again. “And that the Summer was almost five years ago.”
Dominic’s eyes widen. “Shit.”
“Tell me about it,” she muttered. “You guys broke up before school started because her father threaten to put you in jail-”
“Well isn’t he nice...”
“Yeah. Well.. I don’t really know what happened during Junior year, I didn’t know you then-”
“Did we go to the same school?” He suddenly asked. He tried to remember her, but he couldn’t.
“I’m Ella Masson,” She said, smiling.
Something clicked in Dominic’s mind.
“I know you! You’re dating that basketball kid- Eric right?”
Of course Dominic knew Eric, but he knew his friend more. Him and Pete hated each other since Dominic moved here.
Ella’s smile fell. “Yeah that was me. Um you see... Beginning of senior year was when shit happened. Eric and his family, including Pete, died in a plane crash-” She stopped mid-way and shook her head again.
“I’m sorry,” Dominic said, as he reached out for this girl. He placed his hand on her lap and gave her a sincere smile.
Ella smiled back at him. She hadn’t seen this side of Dominic in a long time.
“It’s ok,” She shrugged. “But back to the story,” she said, smiling softly. Dominic nodded, leaning away again. “Well... They both... along with half our town came back as zombies.”
Dominic’s eyes widen. “Zombies?” Dominic waited for Ella to laugh and say ‘got you!” But she didn’t. “You’re not joking are you?”
Ella shook her head. “I’m dead serious. There’s this guy, his name is John Storm. He created a virus that brings people back from the dead as zombies. Thats what happened two years ago. A zombie apocalypse right out of the movies. Almost everyone was wiped out, and everyone in our town was wiped out.”
Dominic let out a long sigh.
Ella was silent for a minute.
“Do you need a minute?” She asked, standing up. “I could leave-”
“No,” Dominic said, grabbing her hand. Ella slowly sat back down. “Stay. I-I want you to finish telling me everything.”
“You sure?”
Dominic nodded. He wanted this empty feeling he had in him to stop.
“Well after the virus broke out we set out for Washington D.C because thats where the Resistance was. When we got there, we found out about Storm and how crazy he was. There was another Resistance, one underground and low key. It was led by Storm’s son, Shane. He just so happens to be the blonde haired kids half brother too. His name is Jeremy by the way and he’s Alyssa’s cousin.”
