"So, where do we go from here? " she looked up at the question.
"I'm sorry? I mean, I know we kissed - and made out a little like two hormonal teenagers last night - but really...." she trailed off, blushing at the memory of them on the sofa all hands and mouths and she really needed to make sure the cover-stick was still masking the red mark on her collar bone.
"Actually darling, I meant do you want to go out for a drink or do you want to go back to mine?" he smiled and rested his chin on his hand, watching her squirm with embarrassment. He grinned as she opened and closed her mouth several times, reminding him of a pretty little embarrassed fish.
"Oh, sorry I eh, " she finally managed to babble an almost complete sentence. Internally she was mortified. "Well, I think after a faux pas like that, a drink would be an excellent idea and given that I seem to have jumped to all sorts of conclusions, maybe keeping it on a more formal setting would be best. Don't want you getting the wrong idea about me!" she finally regained her composure and smiled, her eyes glinting the way he liked so much.
"Oh darling Kate, it's far too late to worry about what I think of you, you do know that right? The minute I poured my coffee into your bag, I knew what I thought of you. I just wanted to see what you really thought of me." he sat back and smiled enigmatically.
"You mean.... that WASN'T my fault?" she put her spoon down and looked at him intently. "You did it DELIBERATELY? Ruined my bag on purpose, even if you did replace it. Why would you DO that? In what universe is that acceptable? Couldn't you just have said hello?" her mind was a seething whirling mass of emotions and questions and more than a touch of anger.
"Weeeeellll" he began, I had seen you before. And I saw you standing all day with those poppies - Kudos to you for that by the way - and I just had to get to know you. Without all the usual 'Hi I'm Tom Hiddleston please don't swear in shock or faint?' malarkey." he shrugged and grinned, doing his best cheeky five year old impression. Kate was having none of it. So he WAS just a bigshot actor out to impress another "fan" then. This had all been orchestrated.
"Well in THAT case, you can take me out somewhere horrifically expensive, buy me the most expensive bottle of vodka on the list and watch as I drink the whole bloody lot myself. If I'm going to be your pet project, I might as well make it worth your while." she scowled and threw her napkin on the table. "Excuse me while I go and throw up, I'm so disgusted."
She stalked off to the ladies, no intention of throwing up but just wanting a few minutes to calm down and to make him aware of how angry she was.
Tom sat and watched her go. Part of him was sorry for making her so angry, considering it was a pack of lies he'd just told her. Part of him was overjoyed she hadn't just rolled over and died, letting him walk all over her just to be with him. Not that he was in any position to judge anyone, he just had an inbuilt wariness these days after... well he wasn't going to spoil the night thinking about that particular episode. He had a relationship to salvage. It wasn't until she'd been gone nearly ten minutes he started to worry. Was she really unwell after all? He was just about to summon a waitress to see if she could check the ladies when Kate reappeared.
She crossed the room and sat back down, silent and sombre.
"Tom Hiddleston. If you EVER lie to me like that again, I swear I am going to do something we will BOTH regret." she stared at him, "I know you didn't do it on purpose. And I know you would NEVER assume someone would react to you that way. I know you Tom Hiddleston. If I didn't I wouldn't have been here in the first place." now she smiled and picked up her wine glass, downing the remaining contents and closing her eyes as it warmed it's way down her throat.
Not taking her eyes off his she went on. "Now, I think it's getting rather hot in here. I am going to take off my shrug and if I see so much as a flicker in your eyes, I'm gone. Do I make myself clear?"
"Y-yes" he said VERY quietly.
"Yes what?"
"Yes Kate?"
"Try again."
He swallowed and looked around him, no-one was listening, fortunately. He looked down at his hands and then back to her face, "yes mistress" he said barely audible.
"Good boy, now, eyes on me?" she waited and then, as he watched, she leaned forward giving him a VERY good view and took off the shrug. Revealing her bare shoulders and the top of the corset, giving her a figure she could, in truth only dream of, she smiled and bit her lip. The red mark on her collar bone was almost covered but not quite. She dropped the shrug on the back of her chair and leaned forward again slightly. It was all he could do not to just drool.
"Now Tom, I'd like a coffee please. Espresso, double. Do you think you could order it for me?" she smiled archly and he nodded. Turning, he caught the eye of the waiter who walked over and stood looking at Kate with a stunned expression. She smiled and looked him in the eye, knowing Tom would be watching her intently. Payback time.
"Two espressos please?" Tom asked and the waiter nodded, smiling at Kate. Just as he was about to leave, she piped up,
"Excuse me? May I ask, is there a little something sweet I can have along with that? Just a mouthful of something perhaps?" she made it sound so innocent, but Tom knew that she knew EXACTLY the effect it would be having on him.
"We do have some mini desserts miss? Perhaps I could recommend the dark chocolate pot? I know you had thought about the cheesecake earlier but this is very intense and extremely tasty. Just enough of a mouthful without being too much." he waited and without missing a beat she nodded.
"Yes, I think I would enjoy that. Something just to get my tongue around while I finish off."
The waiter looked at Tom who shook his head mutely, if his life depended on it, he couldn't have spoken now. He was too busy trying not to shame himself. He was lost, completely lost. He was hers and hers alone, he only wished she would hurry up and realise it.
