Archer
The moment of the trial arrived. My mate and I wait outside the courtroom. I have brought enough evidence to support my defense, but I can't help but feel nervous. My pack means a lot to me; I would be lying if I told you that the council's decision will not affect me. I just hope for the better.
"Everything will be fine. You have prepared yourself more than anyone else. Alex told you the same thing." Annabelle said as she touched my shoulder to reassure me.
I'm glad I'm not doing this alone. I have all the support I can ask for. I kissed her forehead and whispered a 'thank you'. A guard told us that they were ready and we could go inside because the trial was about to begin. When I entered I saw all the members of the Council standing on their chairs and recognized some of them. In the center, there was their leader, Alex, who smiled at me. There were other friends of mine too, alphas with whom I made a deal before restoring the members of the council. Although I know them and they are my friends, I know they will maintain an objective perspective of my actions. Therefore, I must work harder to convince them that what I did was necessary to save my mate. After everyone had gone to their sits, Alex stood up and began his speech.
"As you all know, we live in a world where we must be careful not to bring harm to humans. If the Moon Goddess decides and gives us humans as mates, in that case, person can accept or reject the choice the Moon Goddess has made for us. The defendant waited two years before claiming her and decided to turn her into one of us without asking us our permission. We have summoned him here to give him the possibility to explain his actions because, as we all know, to keep peace with humans we have to make sure that the rules we have established are followed. Unfortunately, turning a human into a werewolf is not safe, so the defendant broke several rules. He didn't consult us, he chose to do it even though it could have killed her and at the time, he had a chosen mate. Let's hear what the defendant has to say in his defense." Alex finished saying and sat down, but something he said made my eyes narrow. What my engagement has to do with this? The fact he brought it up means that he wants to warn me about something without suspicions.
I stood up and tried to look confident."Everything Alpha Sanders said is true. I will not deny what my faults are. I chose to turn my mate Annabelle into a werewolf without consulting you, and I knew what the consequences of that choice were, but I'm here to show you that sometimes we have to face unpredictable situations that require a different approach. I'm not saying that the rules you have set are not valid and I'm not asking you to make an exception for me. What I think is that mates between a human and a werewolf are rare and we have gathered little information about it. So I suggest adding new rules that better protect us or be more flexible about it." I explained.
"So you're saying we should add more flexible rules in that section? Why should we do that? Unpredictable situations can happen to anyone, is that an excuse to stop following the rules? What makes your case so special Alpha Archer?" Asked one of the alphas I didn't know. He must be the one Alex told me about, Alpha Ethan, he was one of the people who didn't choose sides, so this will be the best opportunity to bring him on my side.
"Of course not, I don't think unforeseeable situations should be an excuse for not following the rules you have decided on, but I believe that the situations should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. My case is not special; rather, you are the judge of whether my actions were right or not. My behavior was dictated by a desperate situation. As you know, my mate was attacked by a rogue and she would not be able to survive. Turning her into one of us was the best option I had, and, unfortunately, there was no time to ask permission. She is the Luna of my pack, I couldn't let her die." I claimed and, at my statements, one of the alphas, who clearly didn't like me, smirked, as if I just fell into a trap.
"That's a dangerous statement, Alpha Archer. I heard you had another Luna at the time. Do you have two Lunas? " He said mocking me. I wanted to growl at him for disrespecting me, but it wasn't the right place to do that. That's what Alex was trying to say. They don't have the right to question me about having a chosen mate when I rescued Annabelle unless I am the one bringing up the subject. In a way I did, I talked about Luna, so he took the opportunity.
"That is true, due to an agreement with a neighboring pack I had a chosen mate, but... " I started to explain when I was cut off by the same alpha.
"So you are saying you came here claiming that all you did was to save your Luna when you had a chosen mate?" He asked loudly, but it was more of a statement. He knew the answer very well.
I didn't quite know how to reply without digging my hole even more when Jack mind-linked me and told me something. I was confused by his words, but it was my only option."I think there is a misunderstanding, when I saved my mate I had already broken off my engagement." I lied, I actually had every intention of doing so, but he doesn't know that. I will trust Jack on this.
"It's a lie. I talked to Alpha Aaron and he told me a different story. " He affirmed.
"Trust Jack! Trust Jack! Trust Jack! " I kept repeating in my mind. I hope he knows what he is doing.
"Since you don't believe my words, I will call Olivia to testify. " As I was saying this, Olivia entered the courtroom and came to my side. She was staring at one alpha, in particular, Alpha Ethan. It was as if she was bewitched. I cleared my throat to bring her attention back to me and she flinched.
"Are you Olivia Cromwell, daughter of Alpha Aaron Cromwell?" The alpha that annoyed me till now asked her.
"Yes, alphas. I'm also the one who was engaged to Alpha Archer. What he claimed till now is true. I already knew he had a mate, in fact, I spoke with her days before the attack. I agreed with Alpha Archer to end our agreement and went back home. I didn't tell my father what happened, so he probably misunderstood the situation, since I only came back after she was turned into a werewolf." She said. It was a lie, and I'm glad she helped me, it was unexpected. I'm surprised and so are the other alphas.
They keep looking at each other and it was obvious they were mind-linking, most certainly deciding the outcome. I hope it will be in my favor. My mate sensed my anxiety and took my hand into hers to help me relax when Alex suddenly stood up and I immediately tensed up again.
"After listening to your words, we all decided that you were right. Since the bond between a human and a werewolf, it's a complicated one, we will change the rules and every situation will be evaluated individually. You can keep your position as Alpha, and we believe this was just an isolated case and you will not try to challenge us again, Alpha Archer." Alex said in a warning tone.
"Yes, alphas, and thank you for giving me another opportunity. " I replied with confidence.
"We did it, Angel, we won." I mind-linked at my mate and looked at her beautiful smile. She kissed me instantly.
