While Teddy didn't actually understand what Dora just said, she assumed she was offering some kind of condolences. She shook her head as she typed. "Don't worry. Penelope's still alive and I think she'll make it through it." While Penelope was indeed still alive, the last part was a lie. Teddy didn't get any more information from her parents than what she already told Dora and Sawyer, so she she had no idea about Penelope's status. Still, she wanted to keep her hopes up and didn't want to bring down Dora and Sawyer's moods too much either.
"Well, I'm sure she will," Sawyer assured gently before she suddenly froze up and started shivering softly.
Teddy turned. She wasn't surprised to see Eve walk from the door towards her seat. She could recognize that ominous aura anywhere. She was, however, surprised that Eve actually turned to glance at Teddy as she passed by her. The two girls had never acknowledged each other during school before. Maybe it was because they were now at a new school? Teddy frowned.
"Good morning students!" Professor X's voice suddenly called, interrupting Teddy's thoughts. She and the rest of the class watched as their professor came in, just as bright and happy as he was yesterday. "Oh don't mind me! We still have a couple of minutes before class starts today!"
As Teddy turned back away from Professor X, she saw Sawyer looking at her in concern. "Hey Teddy, do you want to talk about it or would you like to discuss something else?"
"What? You mean the situation with Penelope?" Teddy's AAC app voiced.
Sawyer nodded in response and Teddy typed onto her AAC app once more. "I'd prefer to talk about something else." After all, Teddy thought to herself, worrying wouldn't do anything.
Teddy, Sawyer, and Dora started talking about more light hearted topics, with Teddy sometimes using sign language instead to see how much the other two remembered from what she taught them. Ellie soon came into the class as well and waved at them. Soon, the bell rang, signaling the start of class.
Professor X had decided that they'd start teaching the class Literature today, but today, they only did a review of the basics to make sure everyone was on the same page. Teddy tried to pay attention, wanting to take her mind off of what happened to Penelope. However, unfortunately, this really was the basics. Teddy knew that there were probably struggling students who appreciated Professor X's consideration, but as for Teddy, she just couldn't stay focused on this review of things she already knew. Teddy started doodling on a blank piece of paper within her three ringed binder, trying to will herself into focusing on what she next wanted to happen in her pirate comic book.
Soon, class ended and Ellie came over to where Teddy, Sawyer, and Dora were.
"Hey, Teddy. Nice drawing."
Even though she had her phone, and thus, her AAC app, with her, Teddy simply signed a "Thank you" to Ellie, smiling up at her. This was a phrase she had managed to teach the others yesterday during Study Hall.
"Oh!" Sawyer exclaimed, peeking over at the doodle that Teddy had done during class. "That is a nice drawing!"
Teddy signed a joyful "Thank you" to Sawyer as well.
As Teddy, Dora, and Sawyer continued packing up their things, they heard a slight cough behind them. They turned to see Isa from yesterday, seeming a bit nervous and uncomfortable.
