"So, is your friend Leah okay?" Sawyer asked as soon as she and Dora regrouped with Teddy after lunch.
Teddy nodded. Then, she remembered the conversation Isa had with them earlier. She used her AAC app to ask, "How was lunch? Did you tell Talia about what Isa said?"
"Sí," Dora replied.
As they walked into the music room, Ellie waved at them. The three girls made their way towards the blonde girl.
"Hi Teddy, what was that about with your friend?" Ellie asked.
"Nothing much," Teddy replied using her AAC app. She didn't feel like Leah would want her to talk about what they had discussed in private to other people. "We just caught up with each other."
"Oh okay," Ellie responded. The look on her face said she was skeptical but it seemed she knew not to push the subject.
After a minute or so of more talking, the two Regenbogens finally entered the room. As Phoebe skipped away from her mother to go talk (or more accurately, due to her constant sing-song voice, sing) to her friends, the older Regenbogen woman cleared her throat, getting everyone's attention.
"As I said yesterday, today, we will be doing the drama section of our class. Starting this Thursday, every Tuesday and Thursday of our class will be taking place in our school theater," Mrs. Regenbogen explained. "But first, we will be discussing the basics of theater today."
We have a school theater but we can't afford IEP specialists or proper signs for the school? Teddy thought. Don't most schools just have a stage in the cafeteria? Maybe this school isn't broke, but the principal is just bad at budgeting.
Other than learning about the basics of drama, nothing much of note happened in drama class, although it did provide Teddy with a welcome distraction. Soon, the time came for the next class, which actually caused Dora's normal neutral expression to turn into one of irritation.
Who can blame her? Teddy thought. Her science partner is someone she hates and who seems to hate her back. Not to mention the fact that our science teacher has an even shorter temper than Professor Four.
Still, it seemed that Dora wasn't desperate enough to skip class. Or perhaps, she saw skipping class as running away from her rivalry with David, and thus, shameful? Whatever the reason, Dora still chose to go to science class with Teddy, Sawyer, and Ellie.
Once they got to science class, they separated into their science partnerships. Or rather, Sawyer and Dora separated from Teddy and Ellie who were partnered together yesterday.
"So I guess this is technically a lab class," Mrs. Chrysanthe Hanasaki said as she started the class, seeming annoyed. "So I guess I have to go over safety protocol with you or whatever."
We really couldn't hire anyone with a better attitude? Teddy thought. She looked next to her at Ellie, who had a worried expression on her face, seeming to doubt whether their teacher actually really cared about her students' safety.
Mrs. Chrysanthe Hanasaki went through all of the regular lab safety reminders that Teddy remembered going through during middle school as well. But she clearly didn't seem enthused about doing so.
Honestly, this should have been a first day thing, Teddy thought, and considering how unenthusiastic our teacher seems to be, it almost seems as if she was told to do this by a higher up. Perhaps Principal Announcer found out that she didn't go over these things with us yesterday and made her do it today?
Eventually, the lab safety demonstration ended, although it seemed as if the teacher wasn't planning on doing a lab session today either. From beside her, Teddy could see that Ellie, who seemed to stiffen up more and more as Mrs. Chrysanthe Hanasaki went over the lab safety rules, seemed to let go of all of her tension upon hearing that there was no lab section for this part of the day.
