Miles's POV

'Oh, Miles,' She said between laughs. 'But it is,'

I could hear her laugh forever.

Her hand stayed on my shoulder, and I silently smiled as I watched her laugh. I gazed at her lovingly as her golden tresses fell down her shoulder, shaking violently with the rest of her body. Her eyes were squeezed shut, and a good thing, too - I didn't want her to see me looking like a creep. One single touch from Gwen Stacy was all it took for me to freeze up and shut down completely. Something as simple as a shoulder touch would go through my head the whole day - and it's not like she never touches me or anything...
It's pathetic, I know - the fact that I am 15 years old with the biggest crush on my best friend.

Ever since we were 14 years old and she tucked a flower behind my ear once, I've liked her. Every smile, laugh, pout, and frown she made, I loved. The way she moved her body with grace and finesse as she danced entranced me every time. Did I mention she dances? No? Well, you should have seen her. Every dance show she went to, I was there - the first person to throw roses on the stage, the first person to hug her as she walked off, the first person to congratulate her...

And now she's sixteen, and in my opinion, she has never looked better...

'Miles!'

Gwen's POV

'Hello? Earth to Morales?' I asked, snapping my fingers in front of his face.
'Huh? What?' He shot out of his trance and blinked a few times before looking back at me.

'Gosh, Miles. Sometimes I wonder if you're really on Planet Earth or you're just on your own.' I grinned at him.

He snorted and looked back in front of him. 'Yeah, me too, Gwen.' he added softly.
We finally began walking together for the first time in ages - it's been a hot minute since we were together. I had been in Florida for two weeks, and Miles had gone to visit his grandparents in Puerto Rico - who sadly didn't have Wi-Fi. He laughed as he described the living hell he went through there.

'...and I know they were just trying to be nice, and I love my abuela and abuelo to bits. It's just that I don't think fishing at 4 am in the damn morning is a good way to express that,' he said, creasing his eyebrows.

I clamped a hand over my mouth, half-laughing, half-shocked. 'You're joking,' I said.

'No - it was dark outside, and I didn't catch a single fish.
So I just sat there, frustrated, trying to focus AND trying not to fall asleep, and my Abuelo was going on and on about some war crime a family member he heard my bisabuelo talk about back in the Stone Age or something and I was this close to yelling and jumping into the water to end it all.'

We both laughed loudly as we came to a stop because the walking light was red.

As the laughing gradually came to a halt, I looked around me and spotted a huge screen on one of the buildings talking about the Prowler, and how he had been spotted in action.

'...multiple sources are confirming that this gruesome murder was indeed committed by the Prowler, an infamous villain who has been terrorizing the city for months now...' the news reporter said.

I frowned as I stared at the screen. 'Damn...this guy is appearing more and more lately,' I stated, pointing at it.

I turned over to Miles, who was looking at the screen as he wrinkled his nose. 'Man, this Prowler creeps me out,' he said.

'I mean, look at him. He appears once every other day, killing some well-known politician or criminal...'
'Uh huh...'
'Meanwhile, all these other murderers are caught within days of their first kill, and like...it just...what does he have that the others don't?' He scowled.

'Who is this guy?'
The lights went green and we crossed the street, the Prowler on both of our minds.
I looked over at Miles to see him still glowering at the ground. I sighed. Miles never let go of things easily. He wasn't the type to see injustice and just leave it.

'Hey...' I said, bumping him slightly. 'What did the ground ever do to you? Instead of focusing on that...' I moved in front of him and flicked my eyes over to the TV screen, '...try tying your shoelaces once in a while.' I bent my knee and pointed down to his shoes, a playful expression spreading across my face.

He blinked and looked down, immediately blushing. He went down to tie his shoelaces, and I leaned against the wall of the building next to us, folding my arms across my chest as I waited.

I then squatted down and lifted up Miles's chin to make his head on the same level as mine, and flashed a grin at his face.
'Forget about Prowler, Miles. The police will take care of it. Remember just who is working there.'

His face felt warm, and I let my touch linger, waiting for him to match my smile.

He tried to look away and continue scowling, but I pulled his chin closer to my face, surprised at my own boldness. I had never done something like that with anyone. But with Miles, it felt completely natural.

He eventually smiled back, showing his teeth.

I had always liked his smile.

I let go of his face and stood up, stretching out my hand to pick him up. 'Come on, Miles. Let's get to school.' I turned on my heel and walked away, glancing back to check if he was following me.

He was still standing in the same spot, touching his chin and blinking into the blue.

I breathed out, chuckling. Wow...this guy.

Will I ever get tired of him and his antics?

Miles, you have no idea what you do to me.
