Chapter 13: Switching Things Up

Start from the beginning

Teddy smiled. Looks like her new friends were quite the rowdy bunch. However, her face soon fell into a frown as she remembered how she and Penelope also used to playfully insult each other. Still, despite them teasing each other, it was clear that they cared for each other. But now Penelope was pushing her and Leah away. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts of Penelope and messaged the chat that Talia's pun wasn't that bad.

Immediately, Talia sent a message going, "See? See?" which was later followed up by a "Teddy gets it."

Lola also had something to say, being overly dramatic and acting as if she were aghast.

However, Gale cut the shenanigans short before they could even begin and said that they all should be getting to sleep now.

Teddy said a quick goodnight to the group and after reading Dora's reply of "Buenas noches", Teddy put her phone on its charger and went to sleep.

The next morning, Teddy was surprised to see a text from Leah had arrived while she was in the shower. She had asked if the two of them could walk to school earlier from now on. Teddy was confused at first, before remembering that Leah and Eve had had a fight yesterday. Leah probably wanted to avoid having to walk to school at the same time as her sister.

Unfortunately, the time Leah had suggested was too early for Teddy to come today, since she wasn't finished preparing for school yet. She texted Leah that she couldn't do so today, but she'd have to ask her parents if she could do so from tomorrow onwards. After all, her parents wanted the family to eat breakfast together. Nevertheless, maybe if she told them about the situation with Leah...

However, while fortunately, her parents didn't give her any more bad news over breakfast today, they weren't actually understanding when Teddy explained the circumstances with Leah and Eve.

"I'm not saying what Eve did was right, but she's just a teen like you, Teddy," her dad told her. "She's going through heightened emotions at that age. I think Leah and Eve should find a way to work through their differences."

"I agree," Teddy's mom said. "The bond between sisters is very special. It will only hurt them later on when they look back at this silly rivalry. I know I regret wasting all that time fighting with my sister." She sighed.

While Teddy had no cousins on her dad's side, she had some cousins on her mom's side due to her mom's sister. While they lived far away and it thus wasn't easy for either side to visit, she knew that her mom missed her sister.

"I know you also have some reservations about Eve, but that 'intimidating aura' that you say she has probably doesn't mean anything," Teddy's dad uttered. "There are some people who are just born with a scary face but wouldn't hurt a fly. In fact, you rode with Mrs. Lemon just yesterday, right? You know she's a nice person, but doesn't she look like Eve too?"

"Honey, did you seriously just imply that Mrs. Lemon and her daughter have scary faces?" Teddy's mom scolded.

"N-no, I just..." Teddy's dad awkwardly laughed. "Forget I said anything, Teddy. But I think you and Leah should keep walking to school with Eve, okay?"

Teddy nodded, feeling a bit sorry for Leah having to walk to school with her sister who provoked her. Still, Teddy chose not to say anything more to her parents, realizing that it was a lost cause.

Once Teddy finished fully preparing for school and walked outside, she found Leah standing on the sidewalk by her house. Noticing that Eve wasn't out with her sister, Teddy signed to Leah that she wasn't able to meet earlier to walk to school any time soon.

"Oh, well, I understand," Leah replied. "I guess it was a bit selfish of me to expect you to wake up earlier just for this..." Though Leah was smiling, she sighed.
