~Zoe~
I leaned my head against the cool metal wall.
My body trembled with chills. I lead over the toilet bowl as today's breakfast exited my body. I wiped my mouth with a square of paper and flushed it. I stood and stretched,my hand resting on my expanded stomach. 8 months in and my baby bump was in full view. I turned sideways and strained to look in the rectangular mirror on the wall. I rested my hands on my stomach, rubbed it gently with my thumbs, and smiled, "Hey little one. Do you mind relaxing in there?" I felt a flutter. I rolled my shirt up and looked at myself in the mirror. Yep. There was no hiding it anymore.
"Hey Zoe? You alright?" Molly's voice called from the closed door. I quickly pulled my shirt down over my stomach and opened the door, "Yeah I'm fine."
Molly didn't look convinced, "Missing Newt again?"
I sat down on my bed beside the bathroom door and nodded. She sat beside me and put her arm around me as I wept.
"I need him," I whispered.
Minor sat up on his bed across the room, "Knowing Newt and the rest they're probably on their way. He won't give you up."
I smiled at the comforting thought.
Molly walked over and sat beside Minho. We just sat in silence. A habit we'd picked up after spending six months moving around from room to room.
"Have you picked out names?" Molly asked as minho leaned on her shoulder.
"I have a few ideas but I haven't decided anything final. I'm supposed to be taken for a scan today."
As if on cue two guards opened the door.
"A-19," one beckoned for me to follow him. Molly crossed her fingers and smiled as I walked past her out the door.
I was escorted between the two men in Armour. We walked down tiled halls. Nurses and people in long, white, lab coats walked by. Most of them were examining clipboards or papers. The first guard, the one that always came, was an elderly hispanic man named Joe. He was friendly enough to make the long walks through WCKD bearable. The other one was a young, stern looking, blonde man. He was short and stocky with buzzed blonde hair. He never spoke. His name was Simone.
Joe opened a thick metal door, "after you."
"Thanks," I smiled as I stepped inside. In the room was a bed, sink, and counter where a young woman sat on a low stool typing something on a laptop.
"Good morning," I said quietly.
She looked up at me, "Oh yes. You're the pregnant girl."
I nodded and wrapped my arms around my middle.
"Have a seat," she didn't even look at me as she waved to the bed. I removed my shirt and sat on the bed. As she went about preparing the tools for the scan I tried to imagine Newt sitting with me. The anxiety tightened my throat as the woman wheeled a cart table over to the bedside.
"Lay back and we'll get started."
I did as she asked. When I was settled back against the pillows she squirted a clear, light blue gel onto her hand. It was cold as she massaged it all over my stomach. I ignored her frowning face and looked at the screen. When she gently placed the probe on my stomach the soft sound of a heartbeat filled the small room. I sighed happily and watched as my baby moved.
"Seeing as you're nearly full term do you want to know the sex?"
I looked at my baby on the screen. Everything in me was wishing Newt could be here. I nodded slowly.
