If you had told me a year ago I would find myself on a bus full of children driving through the streets of the last semi-standing city on the face of the earth, potentially, I would have called you delusional. But there I was. Baby in arms, clinging to my brother for dear life.
"Crap!" Brenda yelled as police cars pulled alongside us. The bus jolted as she slammed the side of our bus into the car. All the kids with us were screaming. I focused on Charlie. Making sure he was secure. I peered down into my sweatshirt. His tiny head rested on my chest as his wide eyes looked up at me. We swerved around a corner.
"Brenda look out!" Daniel yelled as we plowed through two cars. At the end of the street was a barricade. Cops cars, pylons, you name it they had it.
"Oh shoot," Daniel breathed. He held his pistol in his hand. We were surrounded.
"Get out of the vehicle!" A guard commanded.
"Don't move," Brenda instructed. She went to leave, "You're doing great."
Daniel stood up and did a head count. Everyone was here. Charlie began to fuss. I shifted him in my arms so he could eat for a minute. Daniel sat back down. I zipped up my sweater a little further and kissed Charlie's head.
"Don't worry," Daniel smiled. "We're going to get out of here."
I nodded. Brenda shot the flare into the sky. A few moments later a huge hook dropped from the sky.
"Fry," Dan shrugged. Good old Frypan. Brenda hooked the front of the bus. I quickly moved Charlie so he was cuddle into the center of my chest. I wrapped my arms around him as tight as I could without suffocating him.
"Everyone hold onto something!" Brenda screamed as she got back on the bus. Daniel sat so his body was pinning me against the seat while using his legs as a brace against the half metal wall in front of us.
"This is crazy!" I yelled over the groaning of the bus being lifted. "Just think of the stories we can tell the little man!" Daniel responded. I squinted my eyes shut as the bus swung. Daniel was holding onto me as I was squished against the seat back. We were now hanging over the wall.
"Oh please oh please oh please," I whispered over and over to myself. I kept focusing on trying to keep Charlie still. He was breathing heavy same as me.
"How's the baby?" Daniel grimaced as the bus jerked.
"Fine," I said with tears. I heard another pop.
"Hold onto something!" Brenda yelled.
The bus began to descend towards the earth. The bus lurched to a stop, then fell. All I heard around me was screams and crunching of metal. I was clinging to my brother. He held both of us in his arms tight between him and the seat. The bus fell forward back onto its wheel with a crash.
"Okay! Everybody off!" Brenda scrambled from the front seat. We all filed off the bus. A few feet away my legs gave out so I fell to my knees. I quickly unzipped my sweater and held Charlie in front of me. He was okay. His soft hair was messy and he had tear streaks running over his chubby cheeks but he was okay. I hugged him to me and sobbed with relief. Daniel was kneeling beside me.

We crouched behind some concrete culverts as a helicopter flew over.
"Well, they're mad," Gally informed.
"How far?" Thomas asked.
"Maybe 12 blocks from here."
"Why you helping us Gally? I put a spear through your chest," Minho spoke.
