Chapter 36: Normal Lives

"Why did no one wake us up?" Ella asked, her eyes scanning the room. It was only Johnny, Dominic and Alyssa in the room. Charlie and Ashley took off early in the morning, probably finding some equipment they could use to build a radio station and Bonnie was with Andy and his group getting more supplies from the hospital. Johnny had become completely invested in his project, determined to make the radio work. He hadn't noticed Ashley and his brother disappear or Christian and Shawn sneak out. 

"We figured you guys needed the sleep," Alyssa answered, sending them a smile. "How you feeling Jeremy?" 

He gave her a sloppy side grin. "Like someone's been hitting over the head with an axe all month." 

"So you're good?" Dominic teased before walking over to his friend and patting him on the back. "Seriously, it's good to have you back." 

Jeremy passed his hand through his hair. He didn't feel like talking about it so he changed the subject. "What's Johnny doing?" 

"Trying to fix the radio. Ashley and Charlie are off looking for a old radio station for an antenna. Do you think Kiss 108 is still playing?" Dominic asked, smiling. 

Ella narrowed her eyes at him. "Yes because we all need epic zombie killing music, Nicky." 

Dominic glared at her. "I really hate that nickname." Ella beamed. 

"I know." Dominic rolled his eyes. Jeremy walked over to Johnny slowly. 

He watched silently as Johnny sighed and played with the wires again. 

Ashley and Charlie appeared down the hall. Ashley's face was red and she looked like she was about to murder someone. Charlie was right behind her, breathing heavily as he jogged to reach her. 

They were fighting. Dominic could tell just from one glance. Ashley was trying to keep distance between them but Charlie was determined to talk to her. He caught her arm and she turned around so fast and pinned him against the wall with her arm. Ashley held him there by the neck. Suddenly everyone was watching them from the glass wall. They argued for a moment before Ashley let go of him and opened the door to the library. 

"We didn't find a radio station," Ashley said, crossing her arms. Everyone could see the smoke coming out of her ears. Charlie came trailing behind her seconds after. He didn't say anything. He just leaned against the door frame. Dominic noticed a dark bruise forming on his cheek. 

"We literally looked everywhere and couldn't find anything, please tell me you have another idea?" Ashley asked, looking at everyone. When no one answered, she groaned in frustration and kicked over a chair. 

"This idea is stupid," she yelled angrily. "How the hell are we suppose to pull this off? Are we sure this is even going to work? Shane is dying! Is everyone okay with that?!"

"Of course not," Alyssa looked offended. "We're all trying here, Ash-"
