Luke and Michael shared not only a passion for learning but also a love for procrastination. Just as Michael had suggested, the pair were in the library on Monday night so they could work on the English essay together to get it over and done with. They knew they had to hit the books hard, and there was no better place to do so than the quiet sanctuary of the college library. They had tried to drag Ashton along with them but the honey haired boy was in no such mood to be learning after a full day of classes. He would rather sleep so he refused. Michael envied him but there was no way he was going to pass up an opportunity to hang out with Luke. Maybe they'd hang out just like they used to before he ruined everything with a stupid, simple stolen kiss.
After a full day of lectures, Luke and Michael decided to embark on a study session. Armed with textbooks, notebooks, and an assortment of highlighters, they entered the hallowed halls of the library. Its towering shelves filled with books of every conceivable subject were a reminder of the vast sea of knowledge that awaited them.
They settled at a corner table on the second floor, near a large window that allowed a sliver of golden evening light to filter through. Luke opened his laptop, and Michael spread out his notes with a sigh. With steaming cups of coffee in hand that were from the cafe downstairs, they delved into their essays. Hours ticked by, marked only by the soft rustle of pages turning and the occasional murmur of another diligent student.
Luke, focused on his English essay, scribbled notes about the novel they were reading, while Michael grappled with his. He was far too interested in Luke to even concentrate properly on his own work. Their occasional breaks were filled with whispered conversations and short, shared laughter. Luke would recount a funny anecdote from English class and Michael would attempt to decipher what he meant. The blonde boy was far too clever. He knew that. He knew that he wouldn't ever live up to Luke's standards, but he could try.
Around 8pm, Michael let out a yawn. "I think i'm done for the day." He murmured, sighing and closing his eyes momentarily before he looked up at Luke.
The blonde closed the lid of his laptop. "Me too. I've nearly finished it, to be honest."
"You have?" Michael asked with a deep frown. "How? Jesus. I've barely got the first two pages done."
"You wanna read mine and get some inspiration?" Luke asked him with a raised eyebrow.
Michael hesitated. "Isn't that cheating?"
"It's only cheating if you copy it. Just read it. Gain a few ideas. Twist the words. Voila." The blonde said with a simple shrug. Michael chuckled but did what he was told. He grabbed Luke's laptop and looked over his words, sighing in annoyance when he saw how Luke typed. His words were big, sophisticated and powerful. He knew Luke was going to ace this assignment. He took a few mental notes and then passed the laptop back to the boy so they could both start putting their things away.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow across the library, they realized that they had made more progress in a single day than they had in weeks. The library's serene atmosphere had worked its magic, allowing them to concentrate without the usual distractions of phones and other people. Luke knew that it didn't really matter where he was. He was always able to get work done. Michael however, couldn't. He needed absolutely no distractions at all. It didn't help that the blonde beauty was sat right in front of him but he felt so much better that they had spent all this time together and it wasn't awkward.
As Luke and Michael packed up their study materials, the library's clock chimed softly, signaling the approaching evening. They stretched and yawned, feeling the pleasant fatigue of a productive day. With their backpacks slung over their shoulders, they made their way out of the library. Outside, the campus was bathed in the soft, silvery light of the moon. The cool breeze rustled through the trees, carrying with it the earthy scent of fallen leaves.
