THOMAS JEFFERSON ARRIVED IN NEW YORK CITY only a day ago. And if Eloise Virginia had not been upstate with her father and mother visiting family, she would've seen him much sooner.
It was the next day now, and Eloise had rushed out of bed to get dressed in hopes to catch him. She knew he and her father had a meeting later on today, and she also knew he had a tailoring appointment this morning around 9, thanks to her good friend Collette who worked in the tailors shop.
She was in the dark blue gown she always wore, beyond excited to see Mr. Jefferson. A book in her hand, her hair laid practically perfectly, and looking as desirable as ever, Ms. Washington set out on the town.
She made her way down to the square, looming outside the tailors shop especially. When she spotted Jefferson already inside, she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Ms. Eloise opened the door to the small shop, the bell ringing. Collette on the ground with a needle in hand smiled with a mix of surprise. "Ms. Eloise! You've come to visit." She smiled nervously.
That was when Thomas saw her, for the first time in five years, and he could've sworn his heart skipped a beat. Ms. Washington had always been gorgeous, but until now, she had obviously not been of age. And against his better judgment, Thomas could not help but think...
Sweet Virginia, 23 looks good on her.
"Mr. Jefferson." She smiled, meeting his eyes at last. When she said it, there was almost something musical, about it, he noted.
"Ms. Washington." He responded weakly. How could a woman be so beautiful?
"You're measurements are finished, Mr. Jefferson, I'll have your coat ready in just a few days." Collette smiled at the two, eyes locked with more security than anything.
"Thank you, Ms. Jones." He smiles, not able to look at her, stepping down from the stool he was on.
"I'll leave you to your work, Collette." Eloise smiled, waving to the girl and exiting the small shop gracefully, Thomas followed after her at the speed of light.
"Pardon me, Ms, Washington, may I walk with you?" Thomas asks.
"Mr. Jefferson, welcome home." She smiled, curtsying to him before he takes her hand and gives it a small kiss.
"Good god you've grown." He smiles, lifting that hand above her head to spin her around.
"I was only eighteen when you left, you know." She shakes her head, smiling.
"You really turned out to be a stunner, Ms. Washington." He responds, clearly focused on her beauty.
"Please, call me Eloise, no need for all the formalities."
"Well then Ms. Eloise, can I ask you a question?"
"Go right ahead, Mr. Jefferson."
"Do you know the origin of your first name?" She furrows her eyebrows at this, they both knew the origin of her name.
"Eloise. Its french, why do you ask?"
"And your middle?"
"Pardon my curiosity Mr. Jefferson, but where are all these questions coming from?"
"Just an attempt to get you know you again, I've been gone for so long." He quickly makes up.
"Virginia. After my fathers home state."
"You have a beautiful name, Ms. Eloise Virginia."
"So I've been told in the past. Do you have another question or is that the last?" She'd be lying if she said her full name from his lips didn't make her heart beat faster.
"Just one more, real fast."
"Go on."
"You turn 22 tomorrow, is that correct?"
"Yes."
"How come no one has courted you yet?"
"Oh." She blushes at this, looking down at the ground.
"Forgive my sudden ask, I mean it as a compliment."
"How so?"
"A woman of your stature, legacy, and beauty- I mean- the fact no has tried suprises me."
"I didn't say no one tried."
"Oh so you denied?"
"Mr. Jefferson, if I am to marry, I am to marry for love."
"You surprise me Ms. Eloise."
"Do I?"
"Endlessly. And you father agrees?"
Eloise shakes her head a little with a smile. "Not exactly."
"Just one more." Jefferson smiles.
"And whats this one about?"
"Ms. Eloise Virginia, can I take you out?"
