***TALLY/HONEY***
{We've landed safely} I text Liam.
It's eleven thirty at night there, but four thirty in the morning here. I don't expect him to answer because as soon as he got over his jetlag, he got right back on his eleven pm bedtime schedule. Then my phone dings.
{Good don't forget to let me know where you're going}
Smiling to myself, I shake my head then notice that Darius is watching me, but he doesn't say anything.
"Which car rental service are we using?" I ask Darius as we make our way through the airport.
"Why? Do you know how to drive?"
"Why are you asking me? Aren't you driving?"
"I've lived in Alaris all my life and my family wasn't rich, so I never learned."
"I've lived in Alaris all my life and my family was rich, so I never learned." I laugh at myself. "Well, obviously I didn't live there all my life, but I didn't need to drive in Seoul any more than I needed to in Alaris. So, how are we getting around then?"
"Train. There's a station here, we'll catch one down to the main station and walk to our hotel from there. Service doesn't start for another half hour, though, so we may as well stop for breakfast."
The Swiss clock says it's six in the morning, but our bodies say it's 1:00 am. We've decided that it's in our best interest to only sleep for a few hours and then get up for lunch, the main meal in Switzerland.
"I've been looking at train and bus schedules," Darius says over our food. "Honestly, I'm a little confused, the three-eight-one bus schedule I printed out is in French, although there are only a few words so it doesn't really matter. The problem is that there's not a key or something for me to guess what this column here means." He points to the column for the weekday schedule. There are numbers in the cells next to the column of departure times which don't correspond to anything else.
"But I'm willing to take a leap of faith and believe that as long as we leave in the morning, we will arrive at the bus station with plenty of time to catch a bus. Are you game?"
I didn't know Darius had this side to him. I'm used to Liam who is a meticulous planner. I bite my lip and hesitate for a moment. "You know what? Why not?" I stick my hand out to shake his for no particular reason. He laughs, but takes it.
I text Liam the name of the town and hotel we're headed to.
{Thank you. More digging in storage today for me. Have fun} he writes back.
We spend the rest of the day soaking in as much of Zurich as we can. I've only known Tutor Darius and Co-worker Darius, but now I get to meet Tourist Darius. He's almost as fun to travel with as Liam. Even though Tourist Darius is spontaneous, the difference is that he doesn't fully condone my silly side nor does he seem to have one of his own.
If someone were to look at Liam and I and guess which of us planned a trip to DisneySea in Tokyo, they would pick me, but they'd be wrong. It was completely planned by Liam. I can't imagine Darius would ever suggest going to a theme park, much less want to ride all the rides at one.
Similarities between the two, flowing conversation and enjoyment of history, is what makes our day in Zurich pass easily. If it weren't for our mission, I'd gladly have stayed here longer. As it is, we wake up early to get breakfast and head to Evolene. My intent was to read the guidebook I'd bought, but I'm too distracted by taking care of the things Liam usually handles on our trips. I can do spontaneous and unplanned, but that doesn't mean it's easy for me.
