Chapter 5
Xielo was a bit surprised at what she said, and it got him confused.
"Since you're a Gamma, who can easily scare away werewolves, I took advantage of that with this fear I have and got close to you. I even got jealous when you were acting closer to Kaite."
Redilyn looked at him. "I know you're a very kind person, and you will probably hate me for this, but... I was actually just using you."
Xielo was shocked to hear that.
"I understand if you want to stay away from me after this, but I'm really sorry for that, Xielo," Redilyn apologized. "You deserve someone better."
"What are you talking about?" Xielo suddenly said that surprised Redilyn.
"I chose to be close with you. If you think this friendship we have is just using me to scare away werewolves because I'm a Gamma, then go ahead and use me. I don't even feel you're using me for the past days we have been together," Xielo said.
Redilyn was just giving back a surprised look.
"But now I understand why Kaite was trying to stop me from asking this to you," Xielo continued. "But uhm, this will be my last question, if you don't mind. Is there a reason why you are scared of werewolves?"
Redilyn was a bit surprised.
"Yes," Redilyn answered. "The reason I am scared of them is... because..."
Redilyn slowly stopped what she was about to say... and her body started trembling.
As she remembered those horrible images... in that small cottage... her village...
Her eyes were staring at nowhere, but they were full of fear. Her body continued to tremble... as she heard screams of anguish and terror... tears are starting to form in her eyes...
"Redilyn?" Xielo called, which startled her and made her go back to reality.
As she looked at Xielo's face, she somehow calmed down a bit.
"I-I'm sorry," she stuttered. "I-I..."
"It's okay, Redilyn," Xielo interjected. "I think I crossed the line."
"No," as Redilyn wiped her eyes. "I-It's just... i-it's..."
As Redilyn looked down, "I-I'm sorry," she apologized once again. "I think I-I'm not yet ready to uhm talk about it."
"Yes, of course. No worries. Don't apologize for it," Xielo said. "It's enough that you answered that question that has been bothering me. I now understand why."
Redilyn didn't say anything back and looked away from Xielo.
"So uhm, where do you live?" Xielo started, trying to break the ice between them. "I'll take you there."
"Oh," Redilyn raised her head as she looked ahead at the sidewalk they were walking. "I live around that corner," she pointed out.
"Okay. Let's go," Xielo said.
When they arrived at Redilyn's home, Xielo bid goodbye immediately as Redilyn waved goodbye at him. She watched him go until he was out of her sight.
She went in after, greeted Robert and Mila, and went straight to her room. As she sat on her bed, she stared at the floor. She was wondering what Xielo could do on the day they would go back to school.
Did he really mean what he said? Are they still friends? Is he going to avoid her... or not?
Came Monday morning, as usual, Redilyn arrived at their classroom early. As she sat down, she glanced at the empty seat beside her, full of worry on her face.
