She knew Gabriel wouldn't give up, but she continued to hope.

She didn't know.
Every day, he fell deeper into insanity and soon it would be too late to draw him out of it.
At one point, Nathalie found him leaning against Emilie's portrait, looking as defeated as he had the day he'd almost given up.
As she had then, she hugged him from behind, leaning her forehead on his shoulder.
"Gabriel, when will you stop hoping?"
He didn't reply and sagged against her, exhaling heavily.
But she knew he'd be back in the attic tomorrow.
When would she stop hoping?
