The NINE said their farewells and Matt, Adara and SP1 left through Eden's Bridge airlock. The three kicked off into space and powered through the kilometres separating Eden from the SP1 Graviton ship. When they entered the SP1 ship, they were met by the GRAV Team. A new sense of exhilaration filled Matt, like the first time he left the dock on the LS Defender, many, many years earlier.
He looked at his team and said: "I feel like I have been let off the leash... SP1, let's get going. We have a meeting to attend, and we're late. Matt spent time with the GRAV Team, discussing the coming mission and if they were okay with their function.
The GRAV Team understood their vulnerability to psychic attack as nothing shielded their minds once they left the protection of the ship. None wanted to chance their Impervium spacesuits, especially as the suit's energy supply was finite. Circumstances dictated that they stay on SP1 in a support role.
SP1 began building a 'low tech' shuttle that functioned with electrical copper wiring and used antimatter fuel and force screen. Everything in it was old technology because they could abandon or get captured it without giving away secrets.
During their four months trip, the SP1 ship's course diverged slightly away from Eden so they were separated by ten light years when they entered sub-space. Matt was wary about springing traps that will close without warning or reason. None could know what challenges waited for them at the meeting point.
During the months in hyperlight, Matt, Adara and SP1 practised attacking and the defending as single entities and as a team with interlinked Graviton shields against SP1 avatar attacks
Throughout the entire time, practice after practice, the thing that amazed Matt the most was the 'never-ending' unlimited energy that flowed freely from his Infinity Battery. The more he wanted, the more it gave, and Matt could not help but remember throughout his military life, his main bugbear was that there had 'never' enough power. He laughed with pure joy as he smashed and bashed away at 'all comers' with careless abandon.
As they approached, SP1 began operating with the expectation of a surprise attack. It would never hesitate for a second to say its thoughts and joy about war, aloud because SP1 was a warship, and it lived to fight.
Matt noted that SP1 was disappointed when they approached the rendezvous point and asked: "What's upsetting you SP1. Is everything, okay?"
SP1 Replied: "I'm disappointed that space here is empty. I was hoping we could get straight into whatever situation was waiting."
Before Matt could answer, SP1 perked up and said: "I'm detecting a broad-spectrum signal a five-point three AU that way. He pointed with his thumb over his shoulder. They must have left a beacon for us to home in on."
Matt said: "I'm guessing that its job is to announce our arrival to whatever is waiting for us to come... Okay, let's not keep it waiting.
SP1 said: "Moving toward now. We'll be arriving at the source in twenty minutes. I hope we can get another fishing session in before our hosts arrive. I really love fishing with you and the boys in my lake."
Adara sent into Matt's mind: "SP1 is sad that there is nothing here to fight. It offends the Warship heart of his soul."
Matt asked: "What about you, Adara?"
Adara said: "I was never built as a Warship. However, I admit that I was a little emotionally unstable in the beginning. I improved during the reptile invasion, but since then, my Nanites have become quite adept at curbing extremes in emotion. Then there is my integrated relationship with 'B' Sharp and having people that depend on me."
