Chapter 28: I want to be both your younger brother and stepmother. (5)
"What are you doing?!"
A roar shattered the tranquility of the square, drawing everyone's attention.
It turned out that Xinuo, in his anger, was walking too fast, while Saru, a maid who was walking with her head down and had low combat power, didn't see him at all, and the two collided. Logically speaking, with Xinuo's strength, he couldn't bump into someone, but this scene miraculously happened.
Saru was first startled, the bottles and jars in her hands fell to the ground, the crisp sound echoing in the square, almost making the little maid cry. She panicked and knelt down, wanting to beg for the forgiveness of this gentleman, but what she saw was none other than Prince Xinuo.
Saru's chubby face lit up with surprise. She excitedly covered her mouth, preventing herself from blurting out Prince Xinuo's name in excitement. But her panic from earlier subsided, knowing she hadn't done it intentionally, and Prince Xinuo shouldn't punish her severely given his character.
However, what happened next shocked her to the core.
"Does a mere E-rank maid dare to run around the castle? Have you no manners at all?!"
Xinuo stood there coldly, his crimson eyes blazing with suppressed anger, like roiling lava about to erupt. His strength lifted Saru off the ground by her neck, despite the girl's struggles and pleas, there was no sign of him loosening his grip.
Feilin furrowed her brows, a hint of disapproval flashing in her eyes. She wanted to step forward to intervene but halted her steps.
She nudged Dila, "You go."
Dila, on the verge of collapse, pointed to himself incredulously, "Me? Are you sure you want me to bear His Highness's wrath?"
"Please calm down, Your Highness."
At that moment, a clear voice rang out, like a spring descending from the sky, watering the hot and steaming desert.
Yue Chu had approached unnoticed, the silver moonlight seeming to shine, especially upon him, casting a beautiful halo over his jet-black hair.
Even in this situation, he remained gentle in demeanor, elegant, and composed. Despite being a bloodsucker from the wilderness, he exuded a noble air that outshone many of the nobles standing beside him.
"Do you still remember who she is, Your Highness?" Yue Chu's inquiry left people somewhat puzzled. They thought he would be reprimanded, but Xinuo, instead of suspicion, loosened his grip, examining the girl before him. Indeed, he didn't recognize her.
"A mere maid, how could I possibly know her?" Xinuo replied.
Yue Chu smiled knowingly. Just as he expected, it was Saru's misunderstanding. Looking at the despair on the maid's face, he shook his head inwardly with pity. Fairy tales like Cinderella's were nothing but illusions, after all, he was still of noble birth.
Yue Chu respectfully bowed, performing a standard noble greeting to Xinuo. "My apologies, Your Highness. This is my maid. If there was any offense, please forgive."
Xinuo was slightly taken aback. It was someone under Yue Chu's command. A shadow passed over his face briefly. All the recent troubles seemed to have started since Yue Chu arrived. He dared not vent his anger on the King, but he hadn't taken Yue Chu seriously at all.
