Yue Chu, radiant in appearance, walked into the secluded darkness where Lan Yi was situated, smiling as he handed him a white handkerchief, gesturing towards his left cheek.
It was no wonder people felt fearful. The rampaging experimental subject was frightening enough, but Lan Yi, as an ordinary human, had effortlessly slain it without any harm. Wasn't he more terrifying than the monster?
Moreover, with his blood-stained face, he resembled a grim reaper emerging from hell, carrying both boiling bloodlust and icy killing intent, surrounded by thick mist of death, ready to engulf all life.
Lan Yi paused, the gentle smile reflected in his eyes like sunlight on a snowy, frozen land in winter, warming enough to make one sigh.
He accepted the soft white handkerchief from those jade-like fingertips, the delicate fabric gliding over his palm, causing his skin to tremble slightly.
His keen sense of smell allowed him to detect the faint fragrance on the handkerchief, similar to Yue Chu's scent—clear, cold, yet incredibly alluring.
Lan Yi clenched the handkerchief tightly but hesitated to use it to wipe away the bloodstains on his face. He casually wiped his face with his sleeve and then discreetly tucked the handkerchief into his pocket.
Facing Yue Chu's puzzled expression, he flashed a brilliant smile, and the light shimmered in his peach blossom eyes. "I'm afraid of getting it dirty."
Yue Chu seemed helpless but still said softly, "It's meant to be used anyway."
However, he didn't pursue the matter further. Instead, he grabbed Lan Yi's sleeve, where the button remained unstained by blood, and led him away from the corpse with a hint of disdain.
The light illuminated Lan Yi again, making him appear less terrifying than just before, still the reliable and steady leader of the cleanup team.
Lan Yi stared at those pinkish-white fingertips, feeling almost jealous of his button. How fortunate it would be to be touched by those hands.
Yue Chu glanced around and seeing no tasks for himself, said to Lan Yi, "Thanks to you this time, Captain Lan, you're indeed reliable. I'll leave first. I'll leave everything here to you. Chief Lan might come to investigate soon. We should give Dr. Jiang a heads-up to avoid an ugly scene later."
Lan Yi's fingertip moved slightly, wanting to ask why Jiang Quan should be bothered with, but he bit his lip and swallowed his words. He said somewhat anxiously, "Let me escort you back to prevent any further accidents."
With that, he lightly blinked his peach blossom eyes and tentatively asked, "Professor Yue, would you like me to protect you in the future? I'll ensure your safety no matter what dangers may come."
Yue Chu glanced at him. No, it would be troublesome if he ended up like Little Green Tea.
He chuckled lightly, "In the future, after all, I haven't settled down yet. I don't want to burden Captain Lan with gossip."
Lan Yi wanted to say he didn't care but faced with that caring smile, he couldn't be willful.
He took a deep breath, suppressing the bubbling heat in his chest, and called a team member to escort Yue Chu away.
It wasn't until he watched Yue Chu walk away that his expression slowly turned cold again. The softness around him dissipated, replaced by a dark sharpness. He adjusted his cap and began the cleanup.
Jiang Quan had long been aware of the commotion and observed the reports with a solemn expression, attempting to find out the cause.
Yue Chu walked up to him and lightly tapped the bright screen with his fingers. "Do you have time to chat? I was at the scene just now and have first-hand information."
