2 years ago, after minjeong's accident

after they found out about minjeong's hearing issues, the doctor explained to them that minjeong has damaged a lot in her body, especially her hearing. minjeong on the other hand fell asleep again, due to the surgery which of course ended a while ago.

she fell into coma again as it took her three weeks to wake up again. when minjeong's parents and friends heard about her waking up, they rushed to the hospital and saw minjeong brightly smiling at them. she had a notepad and a pen on her thigh. when her parents approached her, she started writing something down.

"what happened? how long was i asleep?" two of minjeong's doctors went with them, which was her psychiatrist and her surgeon. the psychiatrist approached her and minjeong looked at her confused, can't seem to recognize the doctor. the psychiatrist fished her phone out and typed in something.

"how much do you remember, minjeong?" minjeong then again scribbled down.

"well, i was headed towards aeri's house and crossed a street and i met the headlights. that's all i remember unfortunately, i'm sorry." she showed this to the psychiatrist, nodding in response before typing down.

"do you have any other friends other than them?" the psychiatrist showed her and minjeong her head.

"the four of us have been friends since elementary, i don't remember having other friends than them."

"where do you study?"

"oh, i did not go to school actually. though the three kept on encouraging me to go, but i kept declining saying that i want to pursue my passion with drawing." when minjeong showed this, everyone gasped at her response.

minjeong's parents and friends held back a tear as they feel a lump in their throats.

the psychiatrist smiled at minjeong, patting her head and mouthed a thank you. the psychiatrist then dragged minjeong's parents and friends, including her surgeon into the side to talk.

"mister and misis kim? i am so sorry, but i have good and bad news. which one would you like to hear first?" they all looked at each other and went back to the psychiatrist.

"the good news, please." minjeong's mom said.

"the good news is, miss kim minjeong is no longer in depression. she came to her old bubbly self."

"eh? that fast? how come?" his dad commented with a brow raised.

"well, that comes in the bad news. miss kim minjeong is going into PTSD or known as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. due to the events happened to what made her depressed, she's badly traumatized by it. by explaining, the negative emotion associated with these memories is so strong that she could, in her mind, distance herself from the information about the event entering her consciousness. this is called dissociative amnesia. in easier words, it's what happens when the truth is so painful that she denied that anything ever happened to her."

they all went silent with her explanation. the psychiatrist looked back at minjeong only to see she was already sketching.

"so you mean, everything that happened when she stepped into college, she forgot all of it?" aeri asked.

"i'm afraid so, yes."

"but why tho?"

"it came together with the events. from her joining the course, to knowing the girl and then.. you know what happened."
