Chapter Eleven
-Third Person-
Torture.
It was Delilah who had found Sammy.
Fluttering from branch to branch, dodging spiteful raindrops that threatened her flight, she stared in confusion at the broken trunk of an old Maple that had seen many years of Neverand. Then, under a mass of mud, limbs, and leaves, her brown eyes spotted blond curls. Thinking absently that it was odd for trees to have blond hair, she cautiously flew down to investigate.
“Sammy!” she exclaimed in horror when she pulled off a leaf to reveal the unmistakable face of Sammy Pan. She started to panic, calling his name in a voice that increased in octaves each time he wouldn't respond. Only the warmth of his skin, and the shallow wheezing coming from his mouth was the only sign that he was alive.
As soon as the rain paused from its relentless pounding, Delilah was off to Pixie Hollow.
“Fairies! Fairies!” she screeched out into the main section, and her voice was so loud and alarming, the fairies around her turned to listen.
“What is it, Delilah?” Somebody, though she didn't know who, questioned.
“Sammy! Sammy Pan!” she proclaimed around to her audience, “He's hurt! Very badly! Please, follow me! We must bring him here before it's too late!”
“What? Sammy?” Tinker Bell, just catching the name, fluttered over to the front of the growing crowd, and Delilah looked to her.
“Yes! I think he lost flight. He's not responding to my calls.”
“Then what are we waiting for? We must bring him to the Healers!” said the people, and the two fairies nodded fervently.
“I'll go get Kaytee, you bring Sammy here.” Said Tink, darting into the trees without further confirmation. The population of Pixie Hollow, thousands upon thousands of fairies, looked to Delilah. Her eyes widened, and her heart fumbled, but she gathered her wits. With a determined huff, she glanced up to the sky and prayed for no more rain until they got back.
“Follow me!”

The fairies worked restlessly on removing every branch and leaf from Sammy's body, and then clucked in worried bursts at the state of his mangled body. They coated it layer after layer with pixie dust, lightening the load they would have to carry. Though he was still heavy, they managed to carry him to Pixie Hollow, about fifty bulky worker fairies were holding, while the rest were simply pushing up the body from below.
As soon as they put him down, they all watched as Garret, Eleazar, Thomas, and the nurse fairies diagnosed Sammy's Injuries.
It was easy to tell, from the way his hips were twisted the exactly opposite of his chest, that his back was broken in several places. Both the humerus bones in his arms were snapped in half from where they had connected with the trunk of the tree, and his left knee was almost completely backwards. Every single rib of his chest was shattered. Blood was dripping from the corner of his mouth.
“God all mighty,” Thomas gasped with a shuddering breath, “How...how is he still alive?” Eleazar opened his mouth, but a scuffling to the north side of the woods broke him off.
“Sammy?” a voice called, and every pixie recognized it as Kaytee Pan's voice. The lady's brown eyes searched, and when Tinker Bell gasped, she followed the gaze.
“Sammy!” Kaytee shrieked, running over, and dropping to her knees. She burst into tears and started sobbing, “My baby! Sammy, oh Sammy! Baby, talk to me- Oh god! Sammy, Sammy!” her hands fussed about, not really knowing where to place them, so she settled for cupping his cheeks.
