News of the tragedy of Y/N and her family had reached England and Y/N's father's oldest friend, Governor Weatherby Swann, took it upon himself to look after the poor girl. He was to pick her up on the way to Port Royal and that was to become the girl's new home. This, however, was to be in two years time. Governor Swann felt he owed this to his friend. He had met Y/N on several occasions and thought her to be a charming girl. He didn't want to see her alone.

Until then, Y/N would reside in the town's local tavern with Mary as her guardian. The girl was looked after well but hardly spoke a word to anyone. She kept to herself in her room. She slept during the day and was wide awake during the night. She missed her parents dearly and longed to be with them again. She thought of them often and the happy life they had together.

Soon, the day came when Y/N was to board the boat to Port Royal. The sky was grey and miserable, a mist descended on the island and created an unsettling air around the harbour.

Y/N had said her goodbyes to Mary and the few locals left on the island. They all waited for Governor Swann with the young girl they all loved, though she had grown up a bit in her time with them. In that moment, however, the young girl felt all alone.

Y/N was about to leave the only home she knew to start a new life with strangers, in a strange new place. She felt hopeless and scared of the unknown that awaited her.

That's when her mind wandered back to her brief encounter with Jack Sparrow all those years ago, and the first words he spoke to her.

"Don't be afraid."

These words played on repeat in her mind until the grand English ship pulled up at the port. She eyed the magnificent vessel and prepared to board with her small bag and storybook in hand.

Y/N took a deep breath and in that second, she decided she wasn't going to be afraid, not now, not ever again. Life was too short to be scared now; Y/N knew this better than anyone. She promised herself that the minute she stepped on the boat floating in front of her, fear would never take control and she would live life to its full.

Y/N stepped onto the boat to be greeted by Governor Swann with a warm smile and open arms. She remembered this man fondly and was glad to see him. While they shared an embrace, the girl could've sworn she heard someone on the boat say,

"Great. Another miniature woman on board."

Y/N shrugged off the comment, thinking nothing of it and let go of Governor Swann. The governor quickly introduced the young girl to his daughter, Elizabeth. Y/N was a few years older than her but felt small in her presence. Elizabeth was beautiful and held herself with confidence. That small feeling was soon gone when Elizabeth welcomed Y/N in a similar manner to her father.

Y/N also met a stone faced man by the name of Captain Norrington and another young face. A boy named William Turner, who was picked up from a ship wreck. Y/N greatly sympathised with Will as she too was alone and without family.

After quick introductions and exchanges with the crew, Y/N sat by herself for a while, enjoying the sway of the ship and the sea air that flowed through her hair; waiting to arrive at her new home and new life.

In the years to come, Y/N bloomed into a beautiful and charismatic young woman in her home in Port Royal. Just as she did her duty back at that small island with her parents, she carried it on here as the governor's adopted daughter. Elizabeth had grown to become a true sister to Y/N and the two did everything together. Early on in her first days in Port Royal, Y/N had let Elizabeth in on her late might tradition of reading under the stars. They both loved the stories about the sea but much preferred the stories about pirates. Elizabeth fell in love with the shared activity and the girls kept it up for years.
