Bang!
Explosions could be heard along with the deafening sound of screams. Children screaming for their mothers, women screaming for their husbands and men screaming out in pain.
The smell of smoke invaded Y/N's nostrils and stung her eyes. Fire was all she could see around her. She looked around but no one was in sight.
Only flames.
Y/N felt a presence behind her, hidden in the fire. The girl was too scared to move, to turn and see who was stalking her. She was stuck in place, forced to bear with the heat and smoke in the air.
Her blood, however, ran cold; for she heard a laugh, the same laugh that haunted her dreams for eight years.
The blood curdling laugh of a pirate.
The girl could feel the presence coming closer as if he got so close he would be breathing down her neck.
The laugh became louder until she could hear nothing else. Until...
Her eyes snapped open.
Another nightmare.
These nightmares happened often for Y/N, though she told no one about them. Not Elizabeth. Not even James.
Y/N sat up in a cold sweat. She took a deep breath before removing her heavy duvet and moving to her window. She pulled open her curtains and was met with the picturesque Caribbean coast. How she loved that view. It would always rid the images of the night terrors and set her up for the day. Dawn had approached and though Y/N was tired, she knew going back to sleep would do her no good and send her straight back to that wicked fire.
Y/N was quick to dress herself, hoping to be finished before the chamber maids arrived. They'd always lace her corset too tight for her liking.
Today was to be James Norrington's promotion ceremony and she had to look her best. Her and James haven't been together romantically for over a year and though she still felt a love for him, it grew smaller with each passing day. Y/N didn't intend for that to happen, of course, but when something or someone feels hopeless, you start to put interests elsewhere.
Where or who her interests would go to? She didn't know the answer.
The girl opted to wear her new royal blue silk gown. Her adopted father came to her yesterday with the gown in hand and told Y/N of his plan to surprise Elizabeth with her dress this morning. Elizabeth's dress was gold and almost bridal. It's probably to try and look good for the new commodore. Y/N wasn't a fan of this arrangement, but it was out of her hands.
Y/N wore her hair down in a low bun with a few strands of hair framing her face. Anyone who would've seen her right now would think she looked angelic. All aside from the angel herself. She never thought so highly of herself. Humble, some would say.
As Y/N was finishing up getting ready, there was a knock at her door.
"Come in."
"Oh Y/N you're up already. Splendid!" Governor Swann stated. "How are you, darling?"
Y/N smiled warmily to her father. "I'm very well, father. I'm excited about the ceremony."
"At least one of my girls is. I'm certain Elizabeth is still fast asleep." The pair shared a laugh. They would often have moments of shared laughter like this that warmed Y/N's heart.
"I was hoping you would help me surprise your sister..." The governor's voice trailed off as he wiggled his eyebrows. Y/N couldn't help the grin that took over her face or the giggle that escaped her.
"Yes, I'd love to!"
Soon, they were at Elizabeth's door, dress in hand. When Governor Swann knocks on the door, a crash can be heard from the other side. This made both Y/N and her father wince and look at each other.
