Y/N's breath caught in her throat when she saw the gun pointing at her.
"Y/N! Get behind me!" The girl could just about hear Will's voice. Her attention was directed at the pistol that could go off at any moment.
"Hello, love." She knew that voice.
Y/N's eyes flicked up to the owner of the weapon. Eyes still wide, though she wasn't surprised.
"Captain Sparrow."
"Miss Y/L/N."
They gazed at each other, gun still aimed at Y/N and Will. Jack wore his famous smirk but Y/N noticed something in his eyes.
It looked like fear.
Will coughed to break the tension between the girl and the pirate.
"You two know each other?"
Y/N blushed at the question, remembering the events from earlier in the day.
"Um... we're acquainted." She said sheepishly. Will only furrowed his brows at her.
"If you two are done catching up," Jack interrupted, "I'll be on my way."
Will's head snapped back to Jack.
"I can't let you do that."
"Move!" Jack was insistent.
"No." Will was stubborn.
"Please move."
"No!"
Jack cocked his gun, "this shot is not meant for you, mate."
Will was about to protest again when someone shouted,
"Will, let him go!"
Both men looked at Y/N quizzically and with shock.
The girl was shocked herself. She was here to go after Jack, why would she want to let him go?
CRASH!
Jack was hit over the head and fell face first onto the ground, revealing Mr Brown, the blacksmith, with his hand raised about his head, holding a broken bottle.
Y/N rushed forward but Will held her back. He looked at her with a scowl on his face.
"Y/N, what do you know about this man?" Referring to Jack. "Were you the one he threatened?"
Y/N never told Will about what happened to her home, not properly. She also knew he hated pirates; dispised them. How could she tell him that she knew this man?
Before she had a chance to say anything, the front and back doors to the blacksmiths burst open and in filtered Norrington and his men. All were pointing their guns at the unconscious man on the floor.
The commodore stepped forward.
"Excellent work, Mr Brown. You've aided in the capture of a dangerous fugitive."
"Just doing my civic duty." The clearly drunk man stated after only just waking up; being in the right place at the right time. Y/N noticed Will rolling his eyes, frustrated at his employer. Norrington looked down at Jack.
"I believe you will always remember this as the day Captain Jack Sparrow almost escaped."
Y/N was annoyed again with James and annoyed at all the soldiers laughing at Jack.
As a groggy Jack was being taken away to be locked up, Y/N caught James' eye. He quickly walked over to her, grabbed her arm and pulled her away from Will.
"What are you doing here? You should be staying away from danger at times like this." He whisper-yelled at the girl. He looked her up and down. "I suggest you go and put something proper on and leave that fiend to me." James knew this was Y/N's sparring clothes and guessed she would deal with Jack Sparrow herself. The comments, however, were unnecessary and Y/N was frustrated and angry that James was bossing her around.
