My heart thudded against my chest as I sprinted through the city. The furious grunts of bullies echoed behind me, spurring me onward into the bustling streets. With every step, I could hear them getting closer and closer, quickly narrowing the gap I had made between us.
"Stop running Cody," one of them taunted from behind me.
I swiveled my head back, the terrifying realization of how fast they were approaching dawning on me. "I'd rather not!" I stated, my legs pumping harder than they ever had before. I turned back around, finally noticing the rapidly oncoming concrete wall of a monstrous skyscraper. I quickly dug my feet into the sidewalk, barely stopping myself from ramming face-first into the building. My hands shook as I slowly turned to face the oncoming stampede of husky-looking high schoolers. I desperately glanced around for an escape, the terrifying footsteps becoming louder by the second. Unfortunately, the only escape route I could see was the open road, which had hundreds of speeding cars racing across it each minute.
"Nowhere to run now punk!" exclaimed their leader, his alarmingly large fist clenching as his expression changed to one of psychopathic ecstasy.
I fearfully glanced between the incoming limb and the bustling street. Finally, I realized what I had to do...
I wiped the sweat out of my brown hair, and, with a face of determination, I pushed my round glasses up my nose, knowing there was only one rational escape. The leader of the knuckleheads lunged for me.
I nimbly ducked under his lunge, before rushing into one of Okayama city's busiest streets.
Now, I know what you're thinking, 'How can you be so stupid that you run into the middle of a busy road?' Welp, In the choice between risking traffic or getting pummeled by 'Big Boy Okashi,' I had reasoned, Well I'm either going to die getting my face caved in by a kid who probably showers on a monthly basis, or I could take my chances on the city street with a chance of perishing, statistically, it made sense why I chose the road.
"Eeek!" Shrieked Okashi in an extremely feminine fashion, the painful sound of his fist ramming straight into the wall where I had been a second before echoing in my ears. The other bullies simply froze in place, not daring to pursue me on such dangerous terrain.
I teasingly walked backward, my arms outstretched like a bird's wings.
"Haha, this is why you don't mess with Cody Tana-"
A large flatbed truck, which was driving way over the speed limit suddenly plowed right into my body, its horn blaring obnoxiously.
I stared blankly at the sky, the world around me started to feel as if it was moving in slow motion.
It's strange how in your last moments before death, the most random thoughts begin to come to your mind. I began thinking of obscene questions such as: 'Why was that truck in such a rush,' or 'Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable... or perhaps it's a succulent...' My vision started to tunnel as my body began to feel oddly numb. 'Am I dying?' I wondered, my world slowly fading as the only sound I could make out became a muffled police siren. 'Dangit, I didn't even get to propose my new take on the tomato question...' My eyes slowly closed, certain that I would never wake up again, but as most people know, plans rarely go as expected.
