The next day of the hunt ball was now for the ladies. While the men were allowed to disguise themselves, we are not the ones to hide our identity. Obviously, a lot of women vampires were more excited to approach their main love interest. Sighting loud, a bunch of girls came over, "What is the matter hun?"
"Can't I just skip this night and try next year?"
Looking sad, she pressed me onto her chest, "Awww, didn't you find a love interest last night?"
"I have, as a matter of fact. "
The group got curious, "Who?"
"Well he is slim, tall and...he was my savior. I wouldn't have survived without him."
Knowing exactly what happened to me on the ball, a few went to the window. One sighted sweet, "I know it's Laurence."
I crossed my arms like an X, "Actually, I meant the tree."
"You really should stop being so childish and grow up. Just because you are a human, doesn't make you ugly or anything." Another girl came from behind and placed a cape around my shoulders, "And Laurence seems to be a good catch for you."
"But I don't love him...well...not like that."
"All in good times hun, give this night another try. You never know what awaits you next."
I smirked, "Perhaps another chance to fly out the ball?"
Even my sense of humor didn't get me out of this, as countless vampire ladies had me trapped. They wanted to make sure, that I will most definitely come to the ball...even if they have to drag me there.
Drac wasn't as happy of this night like he supposed to.
Looking sad at the mirror, for once he hated not to see his reflection. He was fully dressed in his suit and cape. Norris words just won't leave his mind. The only reason he is here, is because of me. What other reason does he have to stay in this place? Mavis and Jonny arrived at his room shortly after, asking him how it went with Norris. Drac just explained them about the financial circumstances, but not about the warning. On the other hand, Mavis refused to tell him about Laurence, which was harder to keep with Jonny around. Her husband just likes to say things he actually should keep to himself. Drac's mouth turned to a sad smile, while the tip of his cape dropped the same way, "What should I do Mavi? After what I done, I can't possibly ask her for a dance again."
"But this was an accident, I am sure N/A will understand."
The count looked up puzzled, "Actually, how did it happen?"
Mavis got nervous, "That is not the point; all that matters is your next chance to make it right."
Jonny agreed, "Yeah, it is not like you get drunk again. The guys aren't allowed to drink at this ball."
"I was drunk?!"
Mavis hit Jonny's ribcage, making him drop to the floor. His wife gave him a deadly glare, "We discuss this later."
"Mavis honey, what is Jonny talking about?"
"Just the usual rubbish dad. Come on, we got a ball to go to!" Grabbing her father's arm, she pulled him along to the main hall. Jonny just yelled after them that he will catch up...as soon the pain will fade. Drac got extremely nervous, but couldn't withdraw from his daughter. At closed doors, she adjusted his clothes and cleaned a few areas, "There, you look handsome dad."
"I hope she will see it the same way."
Maivs smiled "I am sure she will, off we go" One push alone and the doors were wide open. But instead of friendly smiles, he received expressions of disgust and shame. Drac asked his daughter about it, as Norris stood behind him, "It seems the rumors have already spread faster than you can appear count." He looked away ashamed, as Norris came closer to his ear, "And remember...hands off."
Mavis watched them, till she was alone again with Drac, "Dad, what did he mean 'hands off'?"
"Oh...well...he...meant the drinks...of course."
His daughter didn't buy it, "You aren't allowed to drink in the first place. Tell me the truth dad."
"Okay, okay...I tell you." He leaned closer to her ear, whispering the reason, "...I might have eaten too much from the buffet as well."
"That's it?"
"Yes honey bat."
Knowing Norris and how furious he got after the free drinks incident, she believed him.
On the other side of the hall were I and the group of vampire ladies, ready to take action. One already found her partner, wishing us all good luck. Another one left us next. My chance was to wait till everyone was occupied.
"You should know not to plan anything in your mind hun."
Damn it! Vampires and their stupid mind reading abilities! "Come on, I don't see anyone to dance with!"
"Oh, but I do" she said, pointing directly at someone familiar. I gave her a side glance, "No...not Laurence." Her patience was running thin, "Either him or someone you chose." Counting down from five, I scanned the room in panic. Someone to dance with, anyone but Laurence, I thought.
During that time, Jonny was free from pain and ready to party.
Storming into the hall, he didn't see the mess on the floor, making him slide over the ground. With enough force, he collided with Drac's back and made him fall right onto the dance floor. Everyone laughed at how ridiculous it looked, a male vampire lying face first on the ground, with this butt in the air and the cape over his face.
That is when I decided, "Him."
"You got to be kidding me." She was beyond of impressed, "This loser?"
"Yep, now will you excuse me, I got to ask him for a dance." Although I didn't forget how our last dance ended, I was glad of the rules for this night. No drinks, no drunks, not flying lessons...nothing can go wrong. However, Laurence stood there beside Norris, shaking his head in disbelieve, "Is she serious, this guy again?" Norris eyes darkened at me, getting closer to the one I wasn't supposed to get near. Drac doesn't even seem to make anything to stop me. In one go, the pocket watch he held in his hand was smashed into pieces, "So you want to play the hard way count. We will see about that."
